The Normandy / Orne region

Normandy is notable for its lush farmland, apple orchards, ancient woods, and half-timbered houses. It offers a gorgeous and varied countryside, referred to as le bocage, and a mild climate, a little warmer than that of the south of England. It is providing some of the country’s most famous cheeses (Camembert, Livarot and Pont l'Evêque) as well as vast expanses of the orchards producing fresh cider and calvados.
You can make beautiful walks and cycle rides from the house, (detail)maps, brochures and walking books are available.

The Normandy Beaches of the historical D Day landings are about an hour drive from here.
Closer by you'll find the beautiful Chateau of Vendeuvre with landscaped water gardens and the largest collection of miniature furniture in the world and Falaise Castle: childhood home of William the Conquerer.
Other memorable ways to spend a day are visits to Bayeux with its magnificent hand worked tapestry, majestic Cathedral and many restaurants or, though a little further away, Monet's House and Gardens at Giverney.

Le Sap area

The farmhouse is located in Le Sap - a quiet medieval village that is well located in the pays d'Auge, known for its Calvados, cider and cheese making. The village has a thriving market square with a couple of small groceries, three bars, 2 boulangeries (the nearest being 150 yards away) and a charcuterie. There are a couple of restaurants and a tourist information centre. There are larger supermarkets in Vimoutiers, Bernay and L'Aigle and many other fine restaurants within 10-15 minutes drive.
