Home description

Chateau de Lornay comfortably sleeps 16 in the château and two in the guest house. Enjoy the large swimming pool, explore the many castles of the Loire Valley, and return to your own private chateau each night. The Chateau de Lornay is in exquisite condition and is decorated with a combination of contemporary and period style furnishings. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom.

The castle is situated on 36 acres of secluded property in Sarthe and is adjacent to Lombron, a charming village of 1,800 inhabitants, near Le Mans in the Valley of the Loire Region. The property includes beautiful tree-lined paths, an orchard, and a one and a half-acre lake. It is surrounded by a picturesque moat. A stone bridge crosses the moat and there is a pavilion, a pigeonnier and stables. Pastoral views of the moat and pond can be enjoyed from the very large tiled terrace. The narrow peninsula between the moat and the lake is a particularly pleasant place to relax. The lake teems with fish and hosts an interesting variety of waterfowl. The grounds also include well-manicured avenues and paths bordered by fragrant linden trees and an orchard composed of several different kinds of fruit trees. Trails on the property cross grazing fields and wooded areas, and join other well-marked lanes and trails in the surrounding countryside. A professional gardener maintains the property. The Loire Valley / Sarthe region

- The chateau is located in the Pays de la Loire region, within easy walking distance to the quaint village of Lombron, which has its own general store, bakery, butcher, and pharmacy. The Pays de la Loire is the perfect place to escape to whether you’re looking for adventure, a journey back in time, or a relaxing respite. The local waterways offer the tranquillity of excursions allowing stops where and when you choose. Nearby river cruises also offer lunch or dinner cruises.
- Rolling green hills and woods are full of opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking or gentle strolls. Echoes of history abound in the castles, abbeys and churches, and in the bustling market towns which continue ancient traditions.
- The beautiful and historic châteaux of the Loire Valley such as Amboise, Chenonceaux, Blois, Chambord, Angers, Villandry and Tours are all conveniently nearby.
- A visit to the world renowned 11th century Solesmes Abbey, where monks still sing Gregorian chant, will transport you back centuries.
- Vineyards offer another taste of true French heritage. Saumur, Vouvray, Jasnieres and Coteaux du Loir are some of the region’s specialties that can be tasted at many of the area’s wine cellars.

The Château is also just a short 20-minute drive from Le Mans.

Further details indoors:
The Chateau de Lornay is an engaging and warm familial home. It comfortably sleeps 16 people in the château and two in the guest house. The atmosphere throughout the château is very easy, and places to relax and play are numerous. The Chateau de Lornay is in exquisite condition and is decorated with a combination of contemporary and period style furnishings. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom.

Ground floor: The ground floor consists of a living room, formal dining room, breakfast room, library, office in the tower, a family room, kitchen, and hallways surrounding an enclosed courtyard. The kitchen is very modern and fully equipped, and runs along the west side of the courtyard. Between the kitchen and the terrace wing is an informal dining-breakfast room with a stone fireplace that is ideal as a central meeting point, with a beautiful view of the swimming pool. The living room is bright and spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. In colder seasons, the large marble fireplace is very enjoyable. Views of the lake, moat and terrace, surround the room and the adjoining tower room through large high windows and French doors. The formal dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and comfortably seats 6 to 18 guests. French doors open onto the courtyard and its fountain. Meals can also be easily taken on the terrace.

First floor: One of the quiet places on the first floor is the serene library with an adjacent office in the tower. Books, old and new, in French and in English, entice the reader to relax while enjoying views of the lake and countryside. A fax machine and internet access is available in the office. The terrace wing overlooks the moat and outdoor dining and lounging area as well as the western facade. It connects through the breakfast room and has its own bedroom with bathroom, and a playroom. All the bedrooms are very clean, comfortable and well appointed, with picturesque views of the property. Each bedroom has been refurbished with brand new mattresses in the past year.

Second floor: Includes two twin bedrooms (one with two single beds that may be converted into a nice king-size bed and one with three single beds), and two double bedrooms (one with a queen-size bed and the other, the master bedroom, with a king-size bed). The master bathroom, located in the tower, includes a shower room and a sunken 2-person tub. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.

Third floor: There are two recently refinished double bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed. There is also a recently redecorated double bedroom, with a queen-size bed, in the wing overlooking the terrace and the moat. This bedroom has an adjoining room where a double bed, a modern sofa-bed, and a crib may be used if needed, making it an ideal suite for a family with many children.

The first floor of the terrace wing consists of a family room overlooking the terrace and includes a television, VCR, DVD player, Hi-Fi, and an elliptical-exercise machine. The surrounding spacious terrace is furnished with elegant teak lounging chairs and tables, offering the opportunity for leisurely hours of relaxation. The 'tour carrée' overlooking the moat is the place for a game of table football. You'll find bicycles, fishing rods, badminton, croquet, and boules games are also here for your use.

Guesthouse: There is a tidy two-room guesthouse, previously a guardian house, 30 metres from the château and near the swimming pool. It consists of a living/dining room, kitchenette, a bedroom with queen-size bed, and an en-suite bathroom.

A housekeeper and cook attends the château daily and the degree of service provided to guests is flexible to meet their needs. Beds are made daily with a weekly change of linens and breakfast is served every morning. If desired, cooking can be prepared as well. Arrangements can also be made for childcare.

Further details outdoors:
Outside: The large T-shaped heated swimming pool is 13.5 metres by 5.10 metres. It is located just behind the château, near the guesthouse, and is integrated into the peaceful view of the countryside. It was designed to provide shallow areas for children while simultaneously leaving a long lane open for lap swimming, and there is a hot outdoor shower.

The property includes beautiful tree-lined paths, an orchard, a 1.5 acre lake, and a moat. A stone bridge crosses the moat and there is a pavilion, a pigeonnier and stables. Pastoral views of the moat and lake can be enjoyed from the very large tiled terrace. The narrow peninsula between the moat and the lake is an especially pleasant place to relax. The grounds also include well-manicured avenues and paths bordered by fragrant linden trees and an orchard composed of several different kinds of fruit trees. Trails on the property traverse grazing fields and wooded areas, and join other well-marked lanes and trails in the surrounding countryside. A professional gardener maintains the property.
