La Gouletterie (140 m2) is the sole rented property on a 35 acre grass farm where horses graze in the fields.

The cottage was totally refurbished in 2013.

The property is approached down a long drive and is completely surrounded by its own land offering total peace. It is within easy reach of the beautiful riverside towns of La Fleche and Le Lude. La Gouletterie is perfectly situated to visit Saumur, Angers, Tours, Le Mans, Chinon...

Solidly built of stone under a slate roof, a touch of elegance is added by cut tufa dressings to the doors and windows and wrought iron balustrades to the upper windows. Inside, terracotta floors, two huge stone fireplaces(one now decorative) and exposed beams add warmth and character. With its thick stone walls La Goulettterie is cool in summer and cosy in winter.

The fenced private garden with a view accross the fields has a lawn and flowers.

The private pool is fenced and has a lockable gate. The roman steps are inviting to beginners and the salt filtration is kind to skin and eyes. The pool is normally opened in June and remains open until the end of September.

The Loire Valley region

The cottage is situated in the center of a triangle formed by the cities of Le Mans, Tours and Angers. Saumur is located between Tours and Angers. All these cities are well worth exploring. There are all within 45 minutes.

The cottage is located in the "Loir Valley" (The Loir is a tributory of the Loire) between La Flèche and Le Lude. The "Loir Valley" is a land of picturesque villages, forests, vineyards and orchards. It benefits from the mild Gulf Stream and enjoys relatively short, mild winters. Summers are reliably hot and usually last well into autumn.

Between Tours, Saumur and Angers lies the "Loire Valley". The "Loire Valley" was the playground of the Kings of France for centuries and is thus lavishly provided with gorgeous chateaux, gardens, churches and other places of historic interest. The "Loire Valley" is registered in Unesco World Heritage under his living cultural landscape.

In these two valleys, you'll discover an exceptional historical heritage, a range of wines unique, authentic nature crossed by many trails.

Le Mans is situated in the North. The town is famous for the round-the-clock car race "the 24 Hours of Le Mans" in mid June and its museum with its great collection of car and motorcycles. The ancient town is also famous with its cathedral, its Roman walls and its numerous museums.

Le Lude

La Flèche and Le Lude are both about 10 km. They offer a remarkable architectural heritage and a full range of shops, markets, restaurants and sports facilities.

La Flèche is famous for its zoo and its leisure base.

Its world-famous Zoo has an astonishing collection of animals. It offers also excellent refreshment facilities to suit all tastes and pockets, as well as picnic areas.

Its leisure base "Le Lac de la Monnerie" lies on the outskirts of La Flèche. This large and beautiful lake has a supervised, sandy beach for bathing and in another part sailing and wind surfing facilities. The surrounding area has been attractively landscaped and is lovely for walking, cycling and picnics.

Le Lude is famous for its Chateau.

It is one of the finest examples of architecture of the first French Renaissance. It has seamlessly evolved from 15th Century fortified castle to an elegant 18th Century country house. It has belonged to the current family for 250 years. It has gorgeous riverside gardens with a rose garden, a potager and spectacular terraces over the Loir.

Luché-Pringé

This is a pretty riverside village, just 5km away, set around a square with a lovely 15th Century church. There is a very good range of shops, including a pharmacy, two butchers, a small supermarket, two bakers/patisseries and a riverside leisure centre with tennis, swimming-pool, mini-golf...

Thorée Les Pins

Our village. A little and lovely village with a shop for fresh bread and croissants, a local restaurant offering a basic but good lunch and a farm-type shop where you can buy wonderful fruits and vegetables.

"A wonderful holiday"

We booked "La Gouletterie" for a week and we had an amazing time. The gite/cottage is large - there was 5 of us, (2 adults, 2 teenagers and an 18 month old). All the rooms were spacious and tidy; nice furniture and all mod cons. The bathrooms were large and very clean.Lots of little extras made this holiday a real home from home like a welcome pack of milk, baguette, wine, fruit etc. Bedlinen, towels, swimming towels, soap all included.
The grounds are vast and peaceful. We had some really lovely evening walks.
The swimming pool was great and much fun was had by two teenagers and is safe for young children with its fence and locked gate.
The owner, Anne Marie is lovely and helpful and speaks good english. She has put alot of thought into what people need and want from their holiday accomodation.
We will definitely be returning. It is the best self-catering cottage that we have ever stayed in.

"One of the best Gites in over 25 years of renting for holidays."

My family have been renting French Gites every year for over 25 years. This one has to be one of the best. Everything was provided (apart from beach towels for the pool area). Anne-Marie insisted we helped ourselves, without having to replace. So dishwasher powder, toilet rolls, cling film etc all provided. Previous Gites we always replenish stocks! Bath towels were lovely and fluffy and a decent size and beds were very comfy with clean, crisp bed linen. Despite being rural, it was really easy to find this Gite (with the help of sat-nav). The Gite is set in beautiful surroundings, all the paddocks are sectioned and you see lovely horses every day. It's worth mentioning that the swimming pool is located a short walk from the Gite. The set up is the Gite you hire, with a separate detached larger version of the Gite next to it (where Anne-Marie lives), and the pool is located beyond her property. It was no trouble walking to the pool area with drinks in hand! The Gite is located exactly between 2 towns (La Flèche & Le Lude), both are great for restaurants. I would also thoroughly recommend the local bar/restaurant in Thoree les Pins, called Tristons. Excellent wine by the glass and we enjoyed a good cheap meal there. Very friendly service.
To summarise, this is the first Gite ever that I would seriously consider renting again. (It also seemed very sound proof, which is handy as my parents are always up early emptying dishwasher etc and we couldn't hear a thing from the upstairs room we were in).
