The Sunflower Gite (gite)

Home description

Ashfield Ferme consists of two acres of private land. It has two entrances and is surrounded by high hedges and fruit trees. The whole area is available to guests for their holiday enjoyment, for sports, sunbathing, relaxing, etc.

This lovely gite - The Sunflower Gite, has an open fireplace and log burner in the downstairs bedroom. It is on the edge of the traditional French village of Broc. The village bar has post facilities and a small general shop which sells delicious bread and croissants. Several chateaux towns are within an easy drive. There are many local markets - one for every day of the week!

The Loire Valley / Sarthe region

Summer can be very hot in this area with temperatures often in the high 30's. Spring and Autum are usually mild whilst the winter is short.

There are many beautiful chateaux to visit all within a short drive. These include Le Lude, Saumur, Angers and Chinon. Saumur has a tank museum and a mushroom museum. Tours, with its many markets and several hypemarkets, is half an hours drive away. Lots of great clothes shops.

There are many great restaurants within a short drive.

To the north, Le Mans ,with its famous 24 hour car race and museum., is under an hour.

To the south, near Poitiers, is the famous Futurescope Parc.

There are many lakes which provide a variety of watersports. There are many canoe trips available locally.
Le Fleche which is 20 minutes drive has its own lakeside beach with lifeguards on duty in the summer months. La Fleche also has a world famous Zoo which makes a perfect day out for those keen on animals. There are other zoos within an easy drive.

Le Lude / Broc area

Le Lude, a small market town with its own Chateau, is a ten minute drive away. It has a range of shops and restaurants including supermarkets, chemists and the all important breadshops.

The Loire Valley is a world famous wine producing area and there are many "Caves" in the region where local wines can be tasted and bought.

How to get there

By Autoroute from Calais is approximately 300 miles. All but the last ten miles is Autoroute (Motorway) or dual carriageway. Driving time is approximately five hours.

- Caan is the nearest port and takes approximately two hours driving time.

The nearest Airport is Tours (half an hour) which is served by Ryanair. Poitiers , which also has an international airport and may provide better connections, is just over an hours drive away.

There is a specious living and dining room open to the well fitted kitchen, There are beams to the ceiling and most of the downstairs area is laid with Italian floor tiles.

There is a separate toilet and shower room.

The Downstairs bedroom has a pine double bed, pine furniture and a large fireplace with log burner making a charming room to relax in. As this bedroom, the shower and toilet are on the ground floor, the Gite may be suitable for a wheelchair user. Please contact the owner for full details.

Upstairs is a sunny landing leading to two spacious bedrooms.

The Rose room has a Queen size bed plus a single bed. The room also has a small settee which makes a perfect place to sit and relax quietly. An additional single bed can be added if required.

The Bleu Bedroom has twin beds plus plenty of room to relax in. ( A double bed can be provided instead if required).

All bedrooms are of sufficent size to take an additional single bed giving flexible sleeping arrangements.

Further details outdoors:
Outside the gite is a gazebo with table and chairs for summer meals. Aternatively there is a long wooden table and benches seating up to eight, set up in the Orchard.

The gite shares gardens and orchard of about two acres with a beautiful farmhouse Maison d'Ashfield .This is our French home and we will normally be on site to help you.

There is a large open barn known as the Garden Room which is used for outdoor eating. It is equipped with a coffee machine, microwave, electric grills, etc. Sometimes we also set up the Chocolate Fountain machine!

There is a large gas BBQ which can be used outside or in the Garden room.

There is plenty of room for sun bathing and relaxing outside with lots of leisure furniture provided.

There is a large above ground splash pool ( 6m x 4m x 1m) which guests are welcome to use. (available July and August). A paddling pool is available for younger guests

One of the barns has been designed with your leisure activities in mind. It consists of
1) A gym with lots of equipment for those wanting to get and keep fit and healthy, or those who want to work off the effects of local food and wine. The gym also contains top quality stereo music equipment so bring your favourite CDs with you.
2) A fun activity area containing a full size table tennis table, skittles, table football, toy cars and several large toy tonka trucks with a roadway. This area also contains sports equipment for use outdoors including cricket, football, croquet, badmington, netball / basketball, volleyball and tennis trainer. There are many inflatables for use in the pool.
3) The relaxing area which has two sofas, armchair , a vast selection of books, many videos and dvds,hifi system, games including jigsaws, dominos, and many games for children..

We love music so there are cd players in the farmhouse, gite, garden room and the Gym and Leisure room. There are many CDs to choose from but bring your own as well.

The Sunflower Gite (and Maison d'Ashfield) are on a quiet country road but within easy access by car of many local facilities.

Whilst a phone is not provided, it may be possible to offer limited phone and internet access.

Guests are welcome to use the gym at their own risk. No children under 10 are allowed in the gym.

We have two bikes which you are welcome to use.

Conditions

Refundable breakages deposit of Euro 100 is required. This can be payable in cash on arrival or £100 cheque with guarantee card

Payment includes Gas and Electricity, plus bed linen.

10% deposit on booking. The balance is payable three weeks before the holiday start date.
