About the home

Your two bedroom accommodation is situated in a converted stone built barn that has been fully modernised. An up to date interior blends with the original French surroundings. The cottage is set on the edge of a small quiet village in a beautiful rural landscape with vines and sunflowers in the heart of Cognac country.
There is an 11 x 5m heated swimming pool with sun terrace.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

The Charente Maritime is the second sunniest area of France (second only to the French Riviera). The climate is warm and sunny in the summer.
The gently rolling countryside is covered with vineyards, forests and fields of sunflowers. The villages are built of a warm honey coloured stone, wih many interesting features.
There are many historical towns nearby - Saintes has the largest Roman amphitheatre outside Italy, along with a Roman triumphal arch nearly 2000 years old.

The Le Gicq area

The cottage is within easy reach of historic towns such as Cognac (with English language tours of the famous brandy distilleries) Saintes, with its Roman amphitheatre and river excursions and the beautiful and ancient port of La Rochelle.
Swimming and boating are available at St Jean d'Angely, Cognac and Saintes, with golf courses at Cognac and Saintes.
A wide variety of seaside resorts are only an hour away - Royan, Fouras, and the long sandy beaches of the Ile d'Oleron.
The world-famous Cognac Blues Festival is in the first week in July and attracts Blues musicians from all over the world.

By car the cottage is 6 hours drive from Caen (Brittany Ferries) or 8 hours drive from Calais or the Channel Tunnel (using motorways).
The quickest method (75 mins) from the UK is via Ryanair and other airlines from Stansted and other UK airports to La Rochelle and Poitiers (90 mins drive to the cottage) - all car hire firms available at the airports.
By train (Eurostar and TGV) it takes about 10 hours from London to La Rochelle or Angouleme (90 or 40 mins drive to the cottage - all car hire firms available at stations.

We have had a superb time and will have lots of lovely memories. The cottage and the pool are everything we hoped for and you have been so kind and helpful. It's so lovely to close your eyes and hear nothing. Yet the area has so much to offer - the donkey centre, Royan, St Jean d'Angely, Cognac and so on.

A 25% deposit is required to make a booking. The balance has to be paid 8 weeks before the holiday.

There is a £50 cleaning and damages deposit, repaid in the week following the booking if everything is satisfactory.

Local tourist tax is 30p per person per day.

Bed linen is provided at a small charge (£3 single and £5 double per week).

Payment is by cheque or direct into our bank account. No credit/debit cards.
