The Burgundy / Saone-et-Loire region
The beautiful property is situated within the triangle defined by Nevers, Moulins and Decize. Nevers and Decize are located in the department of Nièvre, in the region of Burgundy. Moulins is in the department of Allier in the region of Auvergne. Departments of Côte d'Or, Saône et Loire and Yonne are close by in the Burgundy region. In former days Burgundy was part of the powerful Duchy Burgundy and is now a region of art and "plaisir de vivre". The area is a combination of unsurpassed scenic beauty and historical heritage including many convents and abbeys and of course the excellent wines and food are not to be missed. The cities Dijon and Beaune have an air of aristocracy with many historical buildings to remind us of times past.
- The region Nièvre has large expanses of forests and lakes. The Parc naturel Morvan is a favourite among hikers and nature lovers. In former days the region supplied the lumber for the development of Paris. The capital is Nevers. Nevers lies 25 km from the Château on the river Loire and has, as do many large nearby cities, a medieval origin with a history steeped in architecture. Closer to the Château, a mere 15km away, lies the International Magny-Cours Formula 1 track where racing and other exciting events are held. Decize is a charming city located on a rocky island in the middle of the Loire just 14 km from the Château.
- Allier, and the Vallee de l'Allier, is a paradise for walkers and cyclists where you can see more than 500 castles. You’ll also find the city of Vichy in this valley with it’s famous springs. Moulins, the capital of Allier, also lies on the river 30km from the Château and is situated in the most northern region of the Auvergne. You might recognize this city thanks to the Bourbon family and their castle.
Activities on site - Offroad driving: For those of you who want to experience off road driving, check with the caretaker to arrange for instruction. The Château has a simple track on 8 hectares of woodlands just right for the beginner. Experienced off road drivers can find a greater challenge at two nearby tracks at Magny-Cours. There is one offroad parcours at Magny-Cours but it is temporarily closed for renovations. For cross country driving in the region, go to the Parc the Morvan.
- Paintball: You can paintball on our 8 hectares of woodland. All material, masks, clothing etc is available.
- Driving range: The château has a driving range with teeing ground. Equipment and instruction are available through the caretaker. A putting green with Par 3 and Par 4 course will be built in the near future.
- Skeet shooting: Play as the aristocracy did and go skeet shooting. Equipment and instruction are provided. Only possible under guidance of the caretaker.
- Archery: Robin Hood and William Tell never got to visit the château but after a short instruction you can work on becoming an excellent bowman. Only possible under guidance of the caretaker.
