The Dordogne region

The town of Le Bugue is situated in the Perigord Noir part of the Dordogne, famous for its good food and wine, a gourmet's delight. The Vézère valley is steeped in history, (and pre-history) having been inhabited for many thousands of years. The countryside is stunning, with wooded hillsides and shaded river valleys. The old towns of Sarlat, Bergerac, and Perigueux are all nearby, and each has its own individual character and charm. There is much to do and see, numerous chateaux are open to the public.

Le Bugue

The thriving old market town of Le Bugue, with it's historic lanes and buildings, creates an interesting ambiance. The bustling Tuesday market provides the holidaymaker with all the sights and smells one associates with life in France, and is just two minutes walk from the house. There are all amenities including butchers, banks, restaurants, pharmacies and bakers. Within the town there is Village de Bournat, (a living museum of bygone days) the Aquarium du Périgord Noir, and several interesting caves and underground caverns to visit. Nearby is the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat and the famous Lascaux cave drawings at Montignac. Les Eyzies is only 15 minutes drive away, and there are a wealth of pretty Bastide towns in the area The Dordogne and Vezere valleys provide some stunning views and scenery with wonderful walking and cycling trails. The area allows you to do a lot.....or absolutely nothing!

Local activities swimming, tennis, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, water skiing, mountain biking. Canoeing on either the river Vézère or the Dordogne is a very pleasant way to pass several lazy hours.

Should you want to do more nearby there are adventure parks, water parks, go-karting, hot air ballooning, trips by air to view the chateaux along the Dordogne, plus opportunities to visit vineyards and sample their produce, and generally enjoy yourselves without trying too hard!

We are pleased you enjoyed staying at our house, and that you were able to appreciate not only Le Bugue and its immediate area, but also the wonderful countryside that surrounds us down here along with good food and nice wine in many of the pleasant little restaurants scattered around. Thanks for your kind words about the house, and we hope to see you down here another time. Kind regards, Mike & Toni

"Comfortable house with wonderful view"

Comfortable and sensibly equipped with the all the things you need but not stuffed with things you don't.
We stayed here at the Autumn half-term - Le Bugue is an everyday town, not a picture-perfect village geared just to tourists, so it still has a life out of season.

"Beautiful home away from home"

This home is spacious, extremely clean, well- equipped (we really wanted to steal the fantastic garlic press) and private. The south facing balcony on the river is huge. Hardwood floors, lots of windows and beautiful art and books 'wow' you as you walk through the front door. I am an allergy sufferer and this home was a great respite.
We were two couples and one single who cooked at home every night. With two gourmet cooks in the bunch you need a well appointed kitchen to satisfy and these guys had no complaint. Wine tasting and good food within minutes (walking or driving). La Bugue market is wonderful. Oscars 5 doors away was our lunch spot and fresh croussants from the bakery and CHOCLATIER next door was a daily treat. Exquisite 'cave' an easy hike from the front door. Aquarium for kids and adults in the backyard. WiFi, DVD's, CD's, library. English or French TV.
Loved it! Toni and Mike were wonderful hosts. i have already recommended the place to a friend visiting the region next year.
We rent apartments a lot when travelling and this was the best value for our money so far.
