About this location
The Berry region
Néons-sur-Creuse lies in the midst of rural France, lush “Wind in the Willows” countryside with rivers and lakes all around. There are great walks including the Grande Randonnée Vallée de la Creuse et de L'Anglin, and the Pays des Mille Étangs. The village lies within the Brenne Natural Régional Park - land of 1,000 lakes and 300 species of birds.
Nearby there is golf, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, riding, fishing, tennis, a casino and a race track.
As well as the village river, there are many places to walk, picnic, swim or paddle along the local rivers - each village has its own swimming area. La Bussiere (15 mins' drive) is a lovely river with cafe bar, barbecues and sand. The enormous Lac de Bellebouche (40 minutes' drive) has a delightful beach with sand and supervised swimming, watersports and café bar, set under pines and palm trees. Previous clients said: "Bellebouche was wonderful. We spent virtually every day there and the children loved it."
The summer is a great time for local country events: open air markets, "brocantes" (antiques fairs), open-air dances, donkey races, concerts, plays, open air pageants, communal barbecues and "moules-frites".
See Fontgombault Abbey - fascinating Benedictine Abbey with Gregorian plain chant offices sung by monks in black robes, standing up and sitting down in waves. Visit Saint-Savin Abbey – beautiful abbey with stunning 12th century frescos. See Chauvigny with its castle, falconry displays, and fabulous big market on Saturday mornings. Go to Futuroscope, the famous theme park (55 minutes' drive). Visit the wonderful Chateaux of the Loire (1½-2 hours' drive). See the Zoo at Beauval (nr St Aignan) - previous clients said: "One of our best days out! Fantastic sea lions, falconry display, white tigers - stunning. You could virtually touch the sea lions!"
