The Lake Jozini/Shiselweni region
Warm lowveld bushveld, the Royal Jozini Reserve has 5 different ecosystems. One of the first game reserves in Southern Africa is at Pongola and on the Swazi side, Royal Jozini is some 12000 hectares of unspoiled natural beauty. With the Lebombo Mountains running along the eastern boundary, the reserve is being stocked with zebra, buck and giraffe ahead of the introduction of the Big 5. The Warthogs are busy having babies and their numbers are flourishing, as well as the impala, kudu and nyala. Recently spotted - leopard on the west shore, porcupine and honey badger.
Visit the catered Lodge at Royal Jozini for sundowners and to book your tiger fishing excursions from their own marina. Or travel about 30kms towards Big Bend for supper at Nisela Lodge. Sample the fare at the local Lavumisa Hotel - we promise you will have to ask for a doggy bag, the portions are so generous.
Or just have a braai (bar-b-que) at the self catering lodge, feel the breeze from the mountains and sink back into a bygone era.
