The Lake Jozini/Shiselweni region

Sishelweni is in Southern Swaziland where the landscape is typical lowveld bushveld and the area rural with small villages and farms. The sugar growing area is slightly north towards Big Bend. The lowveld climate is warm in winter (but with cool nights) and dry - the sun shines for months on end. In summer time there are afternoon thunder storms and occasionally it will rain for a few days - and the bushveld transforms into lush green grasslands, and the flat-top thorn trees flower, with the fever trees turn their bright fresh green.

This is a place where you can still see traditional Swazi thatched huts made from mud, the cattle and goats grazing and the mealies in the fields.

Royal Jozini is Swaziland's flagship (soon to be) Big 5 Game Reserve - but we have Big SIX - TIGERS in the lake! For fanatical fishermen (and women) this is the southernmost part of Africa for the sport of catching these fighting fish. Once the king's cattle lands, Royal Jozini Big 6 has 5 different eco systems from wetlands to mountains, and is where the northern reaches of Lake Jozini cross into Swazailand. The lake lies at the foot of the Lebombo Mountains which form a stunning backdrop to the reserve.

Already there is good game viewing from giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, warthog, many buck species as well as 450 types of birds.
