The Mayenne area is famed for its unspoilt countryside, rich cultural heritage and outdoor adventures. From a Roman city, to prehistoric caves, to Renaissance castles, to a medieval castle that withstood the attack from William the Conqueror - the Mayenne has an abundance of secrtes to be discovered.

The river after which the town is named, has now lost its industrial importance, however it is used for kayaking, fishing, swimming or a leisurley river cruise with gastronomic restaurants found along the 80km of towpath, allowing visitors to sample the renowned local cuisine..

A local bilingual property manager will meet you upon your arrival and is on hand to answer any queries.

The Pays de la Loire region

Welcome to the department of Mayenne. Nature in all its glory, history at its most splendid, sport at its most energetic and food at its most mouth-watering. On your own or with family or friends, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.

A comprehensive activities guide will be found in The Coach at the beginning of your stay, with up to date information concerning all types of local attractions.

The 80kms of towpath alongside the river Mayenne is one of the most beautiful public footpaths in France. Protected wildlife areas rich in flora and fauna, pretty lock-keepers’ cottages, gourmet restaurants, ancient water mills and châteaux, nearby tourist sites and numerous leisure activities on or close by the water.

The Mayenne provides parks and gardens to stun the senses, with medieval château gardens, rose gardens, family gardens with activities for the children and much more. The department has been awarded the National Department in Bloom trophy 3 times and 92% of its small towns and villages take part in this competition. Why note follow the villages in bloom trail?

The château in Mayenne is a site of national archaeological interest and the best-preserved Carolingian building

in France. A visit to the château museum is a must.

Evron - the abbey church Notre Dame de L'Epine has Roman & Gothic architecture and one of the best facades for miles around.

Historical Town of Sainte Suzanne - the Musee de L'Auditoire served as a court of justice in the 17th & 18th Century -

now it houses a museum that depicts the lifestyle and events of that era.

Caves & canyon of Saulges - visit the Margot caves where you'll hear legends of a witch protecting its treasure.

Jublains - the most prominent Roman site in the west of France. Climb to the top of the theatre for the panoramic views over the Evron plains.

Laval is an historic art-filled town with a rich variety of architectural treasures like its château, side streets lined with timber-framed houses and historic ‘floating launderettes’ called ‘bâteauxlavoirs‘. Birthplace of the famous

artist Henri Rousseau (also known as ‘Le Douanier’ after his life as a customs officer), Laval hosts a museum

of naïve art in his honour.

Laval is also home the world’s largest dairy museum, the Lactopôle.

The Laval golf club offers players of all levels two top quality courses (a testing 18 hole course and a nine hole course) over 200 gently rolling acres on the banks of the river Mayenne. Just fifteen minutes from The Coach House, the club has everything on site including a driving range, putting green, pro shop and one of the best gourmet restaurants in Mayenne.

"Peaceful quality private family time"

Great House, extremely well equipped with laundry, kitchen, BBQ, dishes and cookware all in great condition. Perfect for quality family time together.
The sports facilies were brill. There was fishing equipment, ping pong (table tennis) push bikes and of course the pool. The local village was a beautiful two mile walk away. The locals were extremely friendly and welcoming.
Both my mum, my sisters family and my family really enjoyed our time together, and returned home very relaxed.
This is a rural location, so take bug plugs to ensure complete pleasure.
We booked immediately to return the following year.
