The beautiful Lot region is situated in the Sth West of France, famous for its rugged and picturesque countryside, its cooling trout-filled streams, the superb wine of Cahors (once the official Papal altar wine), prehistoric grottos, its traditional local farmer's markets, the multitude of outdoor activities such as cycling, swimming, hiking, canoeing, fishing & the fabulously laid-back French game of 'petanque'; as well as the lazy heat of its summer days reflecting off the local 'white stones'.
Summertime festivals abound in the Sth-West, including jazz, blues, cinema, theatre (of all types), classical music & African music & culture. Not to mention the hundreds of local summertime village fairs, plus picnic races & cycling criteriums.
Rural France at its best!
Lauzes area
Lauzès, nestled amongst the hills of the breathtaking 'Causses' area of the Lot (Quercy) region, amidst fields of ripening wheat & basking flocks of local sheep; a (white) stone's throw away from the prehistoric caves of 'Pech Merle' (& a day trip from Lascaux), + Rocamadour & Saint Cirq Lapopie, 2 of the most beautiful historic villages in the whole of France.
Lauzès itself possesses a bakery (the most delicious fresh bread & croissants), small grocery shop & post office; with larger supermarket, bank, cafés, tourist office, local farmer's market 7miles away in Labastide Murat (needless to say there is also an exquisite little restaurant, but then again, this is rural France. There are exquisite and reasonably priced restaurants all over the place!)
Just 18 miles away is historic Cahors (architecture dating from Roman era to the present day) with everything else you could want, lounging on the banks of the beautiful Lot river. A day trip in itself! More information from the Cahors tourist office.
