There is a walking and cycling trail close by (1.5kms) so ideal for discovering other hamlets and villages. Or you could just relax and stay in the large garden (7000 sq mtrs) by passing your time away birdwatching. There are golden orieles, variety of woodpeckers, blue/great tits, nuthatch, red squirrels, etc. Too numerous to mention them all. They are attracted to the orchard as are other fauna and flora. When the fruit trees (and walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds) are ripe you are welcome to help yourself.
|Further details outdoors|
We have electric gates with ample parking. It is of course ideal for motorcyclists too as we have a barn for you to park your motorcycles.
The garden is 1.75 acres so if you want sun or shade you will not be disappointed.
A welcome pack is provided on arrival.
The Midi-Pyrénées region
The Midi-Pyrenees has everything to offer people.
An all year round place to visit with beautiful backdrops, gorges and caves and beaches, to skiing, fishing and golf.
Activities at South Tarn Gites can be at the end of the drive or a short journey away. Lautrec is 5 kms away and is a beautiful medieval village dating back to 13th century and also famous for its Pink Garlic.
The Tarn region as a whole is an ideal place to relax and unwind; said to be a "little tuscany" in France. There are a variety of outdoor activities for you to choose from, such as horse-riding, golf, swimming, sailing, wind surfing, canoeing, off-road buggies, walking, cycling and nature trails, a bird sanctuary and many more.
Castres is a beautiful town built on the banks of the River Agout and is just a ten minute drive. It has a return boat trip from the centre to Parc Gourjade, where you can spend the day playing golf and park games or visit the large indoor and outdoor swimming pools and ice skating at L'Archipel. Or simply take a picnic.
For art lovers, Castres has one of the largest Hispanic collections in France, at the Goya Museum in the Town Centre.
Albi is the capital of the Tarn region and the birthplace of the artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Here you will find the Toulouse-Lautrec museum displaying many of his most famous works. Albi also has the largest red brick Cathedral in Europe, the Cathédrale Ste-Cécile, which dates back to the 13th century. A must-see!
Gaillac is the home of the local wine. In the month of August you can blend music with wine tasting at Gaillac's music festivals. If its golf you love, visit nearby Florentin, which has an 18 hole golf course in the heart of the Gaillac vineyards.
If its a relaxing beach you are looking for, about 30 mins drive is lac de St Ferréol. For the more energetic it also offers a range of sporting activities.
The historic village of Cordes sur Ciel dates back to the 15th.C and is “one of the major Cathar centres”. A popular tourist destination for a day out and about an hour drive.
Dating back to the 6th century, the fortified La Cité in Carcassone is simply magical, being steeped in Cathar history. It was the inspiration for Walt Disney's "Sleeping Beauty", and provided the perfect place for the back-drop for the filming of "Robin Hood and the Prince of Thieves". The link below provides you with historical and cultural information that will persuade you that a visit to Carcassone's la Cité is unmissible. Carcassonne is about an hour by car.
Treat yourself to a day out in Toulouse (by train or car, about an hour). Toulouse is known as the Pink City and has museums, historical buildings, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. It is the home of aviation in France and houses the Space Centre,'Space Experience', a large and interactive tourist attraction.

"Wonderful stay in a marvellous gite"
This must have been the warmest welcome and the friendliest hosts we've ever had on AirBnB. Tom and Sheda are wonderful people who did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. Sheda even brought us a jar of her home-made plum jam and we've enjoyed an evening of "appero" (French aperitifs) with them.
The gite is absolutely great: it's very clean, well-equipped and is perfectly situated. The surroundings are very quiet but the nearest village and the nearest super-market are only a few minutes away. The Tarn département (where the gite is located) is full of things to do (especially a lot of Middle Age historic sites) and Tom and Sheda provided information brochures on everything.
All in all we had a great stay in this wonderful gite!
