The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region

Laugharne is near the Pembrokeshire border and offers easy access to the facilities of both counties. Carmarthenshire is known as the 'Garden of Wales' and is home to many lovely gardens, including the National Botanic Gardens.
It is an excellent place for an activity holiday with facilities ranging from golf to paint balling and white water rafting within easy reach.
A short drive from Laugharne at Amroth is the start of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and Tenby is nearby. Pembrokeshire has many family attractions, including Alton Towers and Folly Farm as well as its famous beaches and scenic beauty.
The Laugharne area
Laugharne has a long history and is the oldest self governing township in the country. In Arthurian legend Merlin predicted'," Kidwelly was, Carmarthen is, and Laugharne shall be the greatest of the three". Dylan Thomas took another view and described it as: a 'timeless, mild, beguiling island of a town'. He followed Caitlin & Augustus John to Laugharne, and stayed.
Others seem to have felt the same: Kathryn Hepburn came for the night, and stayed three days. I myself only came for the afternoon one day. It is a lovely community, which welcomes visitors and quickly makes them its own. A tour of the castle is well worth while, and Dylan Thomas' Boathouse is open for visitors.
There are several good restaurants and some nice pubs, a good riding stable and lovely walks. At the spring tide the town floods, usually harmlessly, and there is a carnival atmosphere. It is a lovely place.
Laugharne has a regular summer festival and there is a literary festival in the spring. On summer weekends there is usually something going on.
There is a lot of information on the township website: http://www.laugharne.info/Laugharne%20Corporation.html
