BookThe Paphos region
There are so many wonderful places to see in Cyprus - we have chosen a few our favourites to share with you.
Paphos Harbour and Castle
The harbour at Paphos attracts visitors all year round, who take the opportunity to walk along the quay and maybe visit one of the fish restaurants, tavernas or cafes. The view is superb, with lots of colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. The castle is in fact all that remains of a much earlier castle dating from 1391, which was demolished by the Venetians. The Ottomans used it as dungeons and the British as a warehouse for salt!
It can be reached via a small bridge over a moat and is worth a visit for the view from the top. Opening hours - winter daily 9am to 5pm - summer daily 9am to 6pm - tel 26932841 (Paphos Tourism Office).
The harbour is also a good place to take a boat tour of the surrounding beaches and coastline.
The Paphos Mosaics
The colourful and intricate Roman mosaics to be found in Paphos are a must for all visitors to Cyprus. They were discovered by accident in the 1960's - further excavation revealed a number of Roman houses all with spectacular mosaics, depicting scenes from ancient mythology.
The mosaics give a clue to the wealthy and opulent lives of some of the Roman Paphiots. The main sites are the House of Dionysos, the House of Aion and the House of Theseus. The mosaics can be found near the lighthouse and fortress near to Paphos Harbour.
Opening hours October to March daily 8am to 5pm - April/May and September 8am to 6pm. June to August 8am to 7pm - tel:26306217
The Latchi / Droushia area
The Polis and Latchi area is the most scenic area of Cyprus and are less than a ten minute drive from the Resort. From the popular town of Polis with its paved streets, or to the upmarket marina at Latchi with its world famous fish restaurants situated around the marina to the many small picturesque villages in the local area - there is something to suit all discerning visitors.
In the past Latchi was used as a small port for shipping carobs. These old stone carob warehouses have been converted into restaurants, fish taverns and places of recreation. From Latchi, travellers to Polis can go on short cruises to the Akamas, a must for all visitors.Latchi Panorama Resort is in the traditional Cypriot village 'Droushia' which has breathtaking views, authentic taverns, long stretched beaches and rolling hills.
Polis is one of the most beautiful, authentic and friendly towns of Cyprus. This historic town has its own character, interesting buildings, museum, a beautiful church and the main square which provides a real social hub.It hosts many excellent restaurants, bars, shops, internet cafes, banks etc. In the warm summer evenings local performers entertain outside.
Polis looks across Chrysochou Bay to the nearby Akamas Peninsula, a spectacular nature conservation area complete with unique coves for sunbathing and swimming and hiking trails steeped in mythological legends. It is an ideal base for easy access to the surrounding coastal and mountain villages which offer authentic Greek Cypriot hospitality, culture and cuisine. It is within easy reach of bustling towns like Paphos (30 mins drive only) or the Troodos mountains .
There are Jeep Safaris, Quad biking, Scuba diving, Go Karting, Coastal cruises, horse riding, water and amusement parks and golf courses all easily accessible from Polis.
Visit Latchi with its great harbour-side fish restaurants and marina where water sports, scuba diving and boating excursions are available activities. Walk or cycle to Latchi using the path along the beach (shortest distance) or drive/cycle along the road to Latchi which also has its own cycle/walking promenade.
Monasteries (making their own wine and sweets) and churches of interest and beauty are well worth a visit and are located in every region of Cyprus.

We stayed in Apartment 225 in the Akamas Health Resort which is an oasis in Cyprus. The resort is spotless, well run, friendly, well designed and feels like absolute luxury. It is perfect for a tranquil get away from it all. It is a little cooler up in the hills so in October when we were there we didn't even need air con to sleep. The apartment was cleaned regularly during our two week stay, with fresh towels and linen. The interior design is modern luxury, with beautiful marble floors and white leather sofas (not my usual taste, but perfect for this setting) The washing machine was a great help especially as we made full use of the gym during our stay. Best of all was the hot tub on the roof terrace next to the BBQ. The views are spectacular over Polis and Latchi and to sit and watch the stars in the hot tub was a regular highlight of our holiday. The resort itself is on a steep hill, next to a small village - Droushia, and all apartment blocks are within walking distance of each other. The facilities are all to a very high standard, the indoor pool however was ice cold, so only venture into that if you are feeling very brave. The food in the restaurant was delicious and probably to the highest standard we had while in Cyprus. Presently, it seems that as the resort is only about 2 years old it is very quiet with lots of space, no fights for sun loungers etc with other guests. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful and it was so nice for once to be treated as you would expect from a 4* resort. The resort is in a excellent location up in the hills between Coral Bay and Latchi / Polis so you can have your pick of the beaches. Although a car is essential, we highly recommend taking a drive down into the Akamas Peninsula to have a BBQ lunch at The Last Castle near to Lara Bay. We would go back in a heartbeat, we thoroughly recommend the resort and apartment 225 especially, because it had such amazing views from the hot tub, with a large roof terrace and a more private enclosed feeling being at the back of the resort, overlooking everyone else. |

This beautiful and modern penthouse located at the Akamas Health Farm and Spa is a very comfortable place to stay. Located away in the beautiful hills overlooking the town of Polis, it is a truly peaceful and relaxing place to stay indeed. We stayed there for a week and enjoyed every minute of it! The views from the apartment are very nice and the jacuzzi on the terrace is a treat to enjoy in the sun! A car is recommended, and the drive to the resort from Paphos is very scenic with very good roads. They even have their own road signs and it was easy to find the place, even without a SatNav or maps! The restaurant at the resort is highly recommended, with the well known chef, David serving some very good dishes! But, unfortunately it seems that he is leaving the restaurant soon... This place is highly recommended and we would love to go back there! |

This one bedroom apartment is excellent in all aspects! It was new, big, clean, nicely decorated with all the amenities you may need to have a comfortable stay! For us the highlight of this property were the amazing views and most of all the private jacuzzi on the terrace! Although breakfast is not included in the price, which by the was was extremely reasonable, you had anything you may need to make your own without having to leave the room. All in all, it was a wonderful stay for us and we are definitely going back again! |
