The Paphos region
Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It was a centre of the cult of Aphrodite and of pre-Hellenic fertility deities.
Aphrodite's legendary birthplace was on this island, where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the site is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world.
The Latchi / Droushia area
Drousheia Village is a peaceful hilltop village where you will experience traditional Cypriot life. It is renowned for its cooling breeze and clear air during the hot summer. This is the village to stay if you need to ‘get away' from it all and enjoy the lovely warm welcome from the locals.
The village has many amenities including several small supermarkets, a bank, a petrol station, a museum plus a winery producing wine from the locally grown grapes and a factory that makes Zivania – a very potent drink which must be tried by all! There are local Tavernas serving traditional Cypriot dishes including the famous ‘Meze'. On the outskirts of the village is the church and monastery of Saint George Nikoxilides.
Drousheia is in an excellent position to reach Polis & Latchi, Coral Bay & Paphos which can be reached by car and en-route you will enjoy the spectacular, breathtaking scenery.
Just because you prefer to stay inland doesn't mean you have to miss out on the beach experience. The coastal resorts of Polis and Latchi are both within 12 kilometres of the villa and both feature coarse sand and shingle beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas for hire and restaurants/snack bars providing refreshments.
Polis is the principal town for the northwest region, huddled around a pedestrianised square where visitors and locals gather in the mornings to enjoy a coffee and watch the world pass by and in the evenings to dine at one of the wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes which radiate out from the centre.
A little further along the coast from Polis is the seaside resort of Latchi with its recently opened 200 berth marina. Here you will find an array of inviting sea-front tavernas with a superb selection of fresh fish and seafood served daily. Just beyond Latchi you will find the well known 'Baths of Aphrodite' and for nature lovers the protected Akamas Peninsular an area particular suited to walkers and adventurers who can explore the many criss-crossed nature trails.
Coral Bay approximately 25 kilometres away is the well known beach resort for the Paphos district. This family oriented area has become a lively resort with plenty to offer in terms of amenities and activities. The resort boasts two sandy beaches, the busier of the two being the popular Coral Bay Beach, a sandy horseshoe shaped bay honoured with a Blue Flag of the European Union.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire, watersports are on offer and there are two beach cafés providing refreshments. A little further along the coast is the quieter of the two beaches at Corallia Bay. Continue still further along the coast and you reach the natural rock caves of the area known locally as Sea Caves, an area which provides ideal snorkelling territory and is popular with local scuba diving schools.
The Paphos district stretching from the Polis area to the town of Paphos counts bowling, go-karting, fishing, cycling, horse riding, watersports, scuba diving, a waterpark and the Paphos Bird and Animal Park amongst the many activities on offer to the visitor. The Minthis Hills Golf Course is approximately a 30 minute drive away. The town of Paphos with its World Heritage Sites, modern shopping facilities and attractive harbour area is within a 25 minute drive.
