A fertile plane surrounds the city, so it is no surprise to find that the local food and wine is of the highest quality.
With an active student population the city also boasts a diverse artistic and cultural life with many fine restaurants and bars.
Murcia is an ideal place to take a family or golfing vacation with 253 KILOMETRES OF MEDITERRANEAN COASTLINE including the famous La Manga Strip & the Salt Water Lagoon of the Mar Menor, beautiful countryside and woodland. It is an area of relatively unspoilt natural beauty.
COSTA CALIDA & MAR MENOR
The coastal area of Murcia is known as the Costa Calida (or warm coast) and stretches some 250 kilometres south from the Costa Blanca.
It is home to the largest salt-water lagoon in Europe called the Mar Menor (little sea) which is separated from the Mediterranean by a 22 kilometre sandy strip of land called La Manga (the sleeve) and is usually 4/5 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean.
With its wide sandy beaches, gently shelving shoreline and a maximum depth of only 7 metres, the warm and tranquil waters of the Mar Menor are ideal for safe swimming and water sports such as sailing, jet skiing, scuba diving and snorkelling.
The promenade on the western side of Mar Menor is home to many beachside restaurants & bars where good quality food & drink is available at reasonable prices.
The eastern side of Mar Menor is bounded by La Manga which has many high quality hotels, restaurants and sports facilities.
The southern end of Mar Menor has the unspoiled Regional Park of Calblanque with its deserted beaches, cliffs, dunes and hidden coves along a 13 kilometre stretch of protected coastline.
At the northern end of Mar Menor is San Pedro del Pinatar, which is a traditional fishing village surrounded by salt flats which were first worked in Roman times and are still productive today. There is also the oldest of the Regional Parks in Murcia at La Llana which is a wetland refuge for over one hundred bird species including flamingos.
With an average daily temperature of 21 degrees celsius / 70 degrees Fahrenheit (over 30 degrees celsius / 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer months) and over 320 days of sunshine, the Murcia region offers a lovely climate all year round; ideal for relaxing holidays and golfing holidays alike.
