Take a trip back in time and discover the delights of true undiscovered Spain. Fed up with tourists then you will love this village and area. Casa Karanna is situated in a delightful white-washed village snuggling in between olive groves, hills and a beautiful lake.
The property has been completely renovated to provide clean, modern, comfortable accommodation for up to 8 people. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathrooms stylish. Two lounge areas provide you with flexible living conditions, English TV and music/games room. The bedrooms again provide for a variety of sleeping arrangements, 1 twin and 2 double rooms (there is an additional double sofa bed in the second lounge.) The property is of traditional Spanish design and therefore cool in the summer. There is a sunny patio outside for alfresco eating and a spiral staircase to a small upstairs terrace with stunning views over the lake and countryside.
It is ideally located to explore the Subbetica National Park, Granada and the Alhambra , Cordoba and its Mezquita, and Jaen with its wonderful castle and arabic baths and cobbled streets. Don't forget the delightful Unesco towns of Ubeda and Baeza. Just past Granada is Guadix with its cave homes, you will never see a place like this again! So many other wonderful places to explore. Excellent shopping at all and historical sights abound. For walkers, cyclists and nature lovers there are many trails nearby and the Via Verde, a long distance trail for bikes and walkers goes right past the villlage. A delightful 15km walk around the lake to see the birdlife and flowers. Fishermen can enjoy the international fishing in the lake and you can also swim in the lake although there is not a beach. Skiing is close by in the Sierra Nevada and the coast just a 95 minute drive away.
But it is so peaceful in the village that you could just relax and enjoy the quiet and the countryside.

Every thing in the house is new. The kitchen is well equipped and there are washing and drying facilities.
There is a t.v. with sky. Linen and 1 towel per person provided for indoor use. (it is possible to hire beach towels if required) There are portable fans and heaters to provide comfort throughout the seasons and a wood burning stove in the lounge.
There is a table and chairs plus recliners on the downstairs patio for alfresco eating and relaxing and upstairs is a small table with stunning views for you to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine. You can hire a large paddling pool (8x3ft) and a 2 man dingy for use on the lake if required.
A welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, water, tea and coffee is waiting for you when you arrive.
Flexible arrival and departures are allowed wherever possible.

The house is in a charming village with a bank, two bars, a restaurant, two small food shops and a chemist. There is a library with internet access and a school. The beautiful lake has excellent fishing and international competitions. There is a long distance walking trail, La Via Verde, a few km from the village along which you can walk or cycle to Alcaudette or Martos (or further afield). The beautiful city of Granada and the Alhambra and skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains is around an hour away, Jaen is around 45 mins and Cordoba an hour and 15 mins away. Excellent shopping can be found at all cities and wondeful historical sights.This is an ideal spot to explore inland Andalucia and its flora and fauna and delightful whitewashed villages and tapas bars. There are many bars and restaurants in the surrounding towns and villages offering a wide range of traditional food.

The Andalucia region
Inland Andalucia, real Spain without the tourists. Sunny all year with little rain.
Very hot in the summer months around 30 - 40 degrees and warm evenings. March - May and Sept - November around 20 - 30 degrees with pleasant evening temperatures. December - February usually around 10 - 20 degrees. The evenings can be quite chilly but there is an open fire in the kitchen/dining room and heaters in the house.
Very close to the Subbetica National Park. Excellent location for visiting Corboba, Granada, Jaen and Sevilla.
Historical sights such as the fort at Alcala La Real are worth visiting together with the delightful towns of Priego de Cordoba and Iznajar- with its beautiful lake. Skiing in the Sierra Nevada is just over an hour away.
Las Casillas de Martos
There are several fiestas in Martos, Las Casillas and Alcaudette. Martos has a Market on Saturday mornings and there is a market in Torredonjimeno on the way to Jaen on a Sunday morning. A large market in Moclin on the way to Granada is on the last Sunday of the month. Martos and Alcaudette have many bars, restaurants and shops and gardens to wander around. Martos has a theatre. Jaen has a large shopping Mall which is open all day (when the Spanish have their Siesta is a good time to visit!). Most local towns have forts, churches and historical sights to visit. It is an excellent area for walking, fishing, cycling, birdwatching and relaxing. It is real undiscovered Spain and not at all touristy. You will need your Spanish phrase book but the locals will love to try to talk to you and help you understand them.

"A property surrounded by beautiful scenery in a quaint and tranquil location."
I stayed at this villa in September 2013 for a 10 day break with my partner and another couple. The villa is equipped with all you will need for a holiday, brilliant cooking facilities, plenty of option of bedrooms and bathrooms. The main bedroom which we stayed in has a lovely little balcony which We sat out on watching the sunrise in the morning over miles of Olive groves whilst eating breakfast.
I would recommend hiring a car in order to travel around Andalusia and see the other beautiful towns such as Cordeba which is brilliant for shopping and quite close and Malaga being just under two hours away and the beach which is also about an hour or so away. I'd also recommend shopping at a supermarket on your way to the villa as there aren't any big stores nearby; however there is a little store for necessities and a man with a van selling fresh bread and fruit on a daily basis in the village.
There's a lovely little bar which also serves food which from memory is called Paco's which I would recommend trying out to get a real feel for genuine Spanish livelihood.
There is no swimming pool as such, but there is a paddling pool at the villa if you have little ones and also a lake in the village which is perfectly fine to swim in.
I'd recommend this property to couples, families or group holidays and will definetly be returning in the near future.

"Idyllic Location, stunning and peaceful getaway"
This is a perfect, traditionally Spanish getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed swimming in the near by lake with friendly locals.
House very quiet and comfortable with lots of space and well equipped.
Short drive to local outdoor pools was much needed enjoyed in the summer heart at Alcaudete and Martos. Great market on a saturday in Martos.
Most recommend - trip to Guadix for cave homes. Amazing shopping in cordoba and beautiful palace in Alhambra.

Casa Karanna is a lovely place in a beautiful spot...off the beaten track. I really loved the views over the lake from the balcony - and I enjoyed the long walk round the lake as well! The villa is spacious and comfortable and the locals are friendly. I found it a great base for seeing the local area...there's a cycle route nearby which was fun to explore. Trips to Cordoba, Ubeda and Guadix in the surrounding region are definitely recommended.

Stayed at Casa Karanna a couple of times and always had a comfortable stay. Clean and roomy bedrooms. Well equipped kitchen and large dinning table. Log burning has been essential, as we've visited in November and February, where its really chilly during the evening. Which was fine as there was only two of use, but it would be have difficult to get a whole family in the lounge area with the log burner, as it really only seats two or three max. There is however, a 2nd lounge area, and i guess in summer, everyone would probably be outside anyway.
Little touches like having bread, milk etc on arrival are great, as no urgency to get to a shop before making a cuppa.
The view from the master bedroom is fantastic, and would highly recomend the walk round the lake, though as we were there in winter, we couldn't get all the way round as river was too high to cross.

Casa Karanna is a delightful little house in a mountain village . There are 4 bedrooms 3good/sized doubles and one small single. The kitchen facilities are clean and well equipped. The main bedroom has a rooftop balcony where you can sit and enjoy a meal or glass of wine with beautiful views of the nearby lake and mountains.
Outside is a small courtyard which is a real sun trap, I advise hiring the paddling pool ( adult size) which is lovely to dip in to cool off. A spiral staircase takes you up to the balcony .
The village is typically Spanish with two bars one of which offers meals lovely prawns. It is rustic and a taste of real Spain. There are two grocery / food shops in the village where you can purchase fresh fish ,bread, meat and other essentials.
There is a bank and a pharmacy where English is spoken.
A car is essential as the village is in the hills. An hour from Grenada where you can visit the beautiful Alhambra.
Communication with the owner was good and all went smoothly. The villa was clean and ready on arrival. Sky tv up and running should you be an addict !
Currently no wifi but mobile phone signal was good 3 g works well.
Because of steps in the house and the hilly position this would not be suitable for people with poor mobility .
