A reformed village house offers spacious accommodation for up to 6 guests. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. The house is located on the edge of the village and just a few minutes walk to the centre of the village and local facilities. The views to the surrounding mountains and the Mediterranean sea can be enjoyed from a choice of 2 terraces.

Staying in the house is a wonderful opportunity to experience a traditional working spanish village in an outstanding location yet only 15 minutes drive from the coast and quiet beaches.

There are marvellous walks from the village and a huge choice of excursions by car including the Alhambra Palace and gardens in Granada and the villages of the Alpujarras.

On the ground floor the house consists of a lounge with two sofas and easy chairs. There is a TV with satelite for viewing English channels and a digibox for spanish channels and a DVD and video player. There is also a broadband access point. The lounge is heated by wood burning stove. The dining area has a table and chairs for 6. There is a separate small sitting room.

As well as a woodburning stove the house has additional heating for the winter and fans for the summer. The house is equipped with a wide ranging library of book and videos. There is a house book providing a wealth of information about the house, the village, local walks and excursions by car. The owner lives locally and can offer any help if needed.

There are 2 terraces both with superb views. The lower terrace is shaded and is equipped with a barbecue and table and chairs for al fresco dining. The upper terrace has expansive views over the Mediterranean and the surrounding mountains. Its a great place to sun bathe and sun loungers are provided.

Rubite occupies a rocky spur in a valley that rolls down to the sea. It is about 800 metres (2,500 feet) above sea level and is a labyrinth of steep streets, small squares and steps. The whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and trailing bougainvillea are charming and picturesque. There are approximately 100 people living in Rubite. Many of these are farmers or shepherds following traditional farming methods. There are corrals of sheep and goats in and around the village. They are taken daily to graze in the surrounding mountains. Farmers ride out of the village on their mules to work the land. The area is excellent for walking and nature lovers. In spring time the wild flowers are a riot of colour on the mountain sides. For bird watchers there are frequent sightings of bee-eaters, hoopoes and golden orioles. If you are lucky the magnificent golden eagle may be seen soaring overhead.

Rubite offers a number of facilities for locals and visitors. The village shop provides a range goods and some fresh foods. Fresh fish is delivered to the village daily. There are two bakeries in the village with one selling traditional mountain loaves cooked in an ancient oven. There is a bar in the summer months. During the week there are daily doctors surgeries and a pharmacy. None of the villagers speak English so a little Spanish is useful. However, people will always take the time to try and understand what you want. The pace of life is very slow and laid back.
