Le Mas is situated at the edge of this very pretty wine and fruit producing village at the foot of the mountains (les Albères) that separate France from Spain at the Mediterranean end of the Pyrenées. This is the real South of France, dare we say it, unspoilt and waiting for you to explore. Good food abounds, stunning views amaze and extraordinary countryside awaits. Want to be active? there's so much sport here, on sea and land, that it takes the breath away but equally you can come here and do absolutely absolutely nothing except sit by the pool and enjoy.
Laroque des Alberes area
Laroque has a tiny castle on top of the Rock, that's how it got its name! Although wine making is declining (that's the bad news, the good news is that what's left is a 1000 times better quality than before) the strings of peach plum apple almond and nectarine orchards that stretch down the the sea take the breath away and make the mouth water just thinking about it.
There is so much to do! The sea and all its attractions are 20 minutes away but there's so much more! Make a trip over the border into Spain (Salvador Dali's museum in Figueres is just 45 minutes away and for football fans there's Camp Nou in Barcelona a couple of hours down the road). Walk into Spain over the hill from Laroque or walk in the high Pyrenees (90 minutes drive), Go and bathe in hot springs (50 minutes), Visit extraordinary Romanesque abbeys perched on rocks where eagles soar. There's full information provided before you arrive of all the attractions the area has to offer.
How to get there
Perpignan is the closest airport but Girona over the border has more convenient flight times to more destinations. Do it by train it's faster than you think, far more comfortable and you can get bargain offers.
