Enquire nowThe Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
With the Pyrenees as our backdrop and Spain on our doorstep, and 20mins the Mediterranean at our feet, what more could we ask for, walks, cycling, swimming, wine tasting, all along the coast there are resorts with promenades and long sandy beaches our nearest being Argeles sur Mer. You may prefer to also visit the picturesque seaports along the Cote Vermellie including Collioure the most painted place in Europe or Banyuls sur Mer where you can take the spectacular coast road into Spain for lunch.
The mountain scenery of the Pyrnees and the old quaint towns in the Tech valley at their feet are a short drive away. Perpignan the capital of French Catalonia is a vibrant historic city to explore at your leisure. If you enjoy playing golf there are courses at St.Cyprien near the coast, and two excellent courses approximately less than an hour's drive away near Figueres in Spain.
They are Torremirona and Peralada. On the French side of the Pyrnees is the Falgos resort and all three courses have recently hosted the qualifying rounds for the European PGA. Spanish Catalonia is readily accessible including the historic city of Girona and the Dali museum in Figueres is a must. The whole region has hundreds of things to do and see.
Access is easy via airports at Perpignan and Girona (less than an hour), and Barcelona and Carcassonne airports are about 2 1/2 hours drive.
The Laroque des Alberes area
Laroque des Albères is an attractive medieval village situated in the foothills of the mediterranean Pyrénées. The village centre has attractive narrow streets winding upwards to the fortified tower at its highest point. On these streets you will find attractive and welcoming restaurants, bars and local shops/artisans.
The village is only 8 km from the nearest beaches (Argelès Plage and Le Racou). Other attractive destinations are historic Collioure and the resorts along the old Corniche road to Spain. The house is located in a pleasant street, only a short walk from the village centre with its facilities (including a small supermarket, newsagent, two bakers, a butcher, a chemist, post office with ATM, a take-away pizza bar, tennis courts, childrens playground and tourist office). A larger Carrefour supermarket is within five minutes drive.
The immediate area provides excellent marked walking and cycling routes, especially in the Albères hills above the village, where there are rock pools and waterfalls. For the energetic there is horse trekking, canyoning, tennis and all sorts of water sports. The area has many enchanting walks and cycle tracks, rivers and lakes to swim in and mountains to hike in. The villages at the foot of the Alberes hills benefit from French, Spanish and Catalan influences and are very friendly and hospitable.

| Airport: | Perpignan: 24 km |
| Railway: | Argeles sur Mer: 9 km |
| Ferry: | St Malo: 900 km |
Assuming travel from the UK, the choice is either a budget airline to one of five or six local airports or car plus ferry or Eurotunnel. Driving from the UK may require an an overnight stop - Clermont-Ferrand is well-placed.
Airports at Perpignan ( Ryanair, bmibaby, Flybe, Aer Lingus) and Girona (Ryanair, BMI, Thomascook, Thomsonfly)are less than an hour away and served by several budget airlines from cities across the UK and Europe. The Airports at Carcassonne (Ryanair) and Barcelona (a major hub for many regular and budget airlines) are within reasonable journey-times, are close to motorways and don't represent more than 2 -2 1/2 hours driving.
If you are flying, you'll need a car. You can check out online consolidators such as 'Holiday Autos' - you get a local car, but they meet the cost of any insurance excess that the local firm might levy. Sometimes the best rates are from the major firms associated with the airline you are using (Hertz, Avis etc). If arriving via Spain hire rates and fuel can be cheaper than France but check if there is an additional charge for bringing the car into France. The major rental firms at Barcelona airport have no additional charge but some at Girona do.
All this can easily be checked online.
