The West Country / Cornwall region
Pronounced "Lanreth", the Parish can trace its roots back to 1086. Apparently the local pub, the Punchbowl Inn was the first licensed pub in the area in 1620. You can read more about the village at www.lanreath.com
Penny Cottage is a perfect location to access many villages, towns and attractions which are all within striking distance. Nearby Looe is a vibrant, historic fishing port where one can choose from a host of activities including safe bathing from the golden sandy beach, rock pooling and whiling away the hours crabbing off the quayside and watching the local fisherman unloading the day's catch. Many other watersports such as parascending, water skiing and surfing are available nearby.
The coastline in this region is beautiful and is accessible by the scenic Cornwall South Coast Path, so perfect for walking and rambling. Talland Bay is incredibly pretty and situated between Looe and Polperro. The Talland Bay Cafe is popular with tourists, serving delicious food, ice creams and selling beach goods. Throughout the year Looe hosts a range of events including sailing regattas, a jazz festival, carnival week and even a duck race! New Year at Looe is made really special with the whole town celebrating in fancy dress and fireworks at midnight off the beach.
A lovely picturesque railway running along the river connects East Looe to Liskeard giving further access to the national rail network.
The river divides East and West Looe and both areas have a wealth of quaint buildings, cobbled streets, award winnning restaurants, cafes, traditional pubs and a variety of interesting shops, art galleries and boutiques.
For the surfing enthusiast, Newquay is only about a half hour drive away.
The Eden Project The amazing and successful attraction near St. Austell which is only a half hour drive from Penny Cottage. You can travel on the Bodinnick car ferry over the river Fowey. Lanreath area
Lanreath is perfect for those looking to enjoy quiet village life during their stay (in a village that provides a shop, church and fantastic local pub) as well as being perfectly located to visit the beautiful countryside a few miles away in Bodmin Moor, the south coast at Looe, Talland, Polperro and Fowey.
It is also perfectly place to reach the north coast of Cornwall, with Newquay and Padstow only about 30 miles away.
For those wanting to venture further south, the cottage is a perfect base to access Truro which is about 30 miles away, Falmouth is about 45 miles and Penzance is about 58 miles away.
There are fantastic riding stables about 2 miles away at Polmartin with great tuition for all abilities, they offer an indoor and outdoor school, and hacking into stunning countryside more details available at www.polmartinfarm.com which is next door to the wild animal park at Porfell www.porfellanimalland.co.uk
