In Lanreath, a fine, Grade II listed, south-facing cottage, mentioned in the Domesday Book, flanked by equally ancient cottages. In front, a neat walled garden; at the back, a surprisingly large, mostly lawned garden on two levels (steps) with patio (table/chairs, barbecue) which can be lit at night for romantic dining.
Entrance hall with inglenook (woodburner, cloam oven), lovely slate floor, leather window seat and pool table; large living room with polished wood floor and leather sofas; fitted oak kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave, freezer, larder fridge) with Chinese slate floor and stylish table/chairs; utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, loo, washbasin). Back door and 2 steps up to cobbles, then 2 further steps up to first tier of lawn and patio, and 11 slate steps up to further lawn. Upstairs, four bedrooms – a double (5' bed, TV/DVD) with en suite shower-room (suite with large cubicle), another double (5' bed, TV), a twin (limited clothes-storage space), and a single with additional 2'6" z-bed; excellent bathroom (suite with roll-top bath plus hand-shower). Damages Deposit £150. Garage (by arrangement) and additional off-road parking opposite cottage. An excellent cottage in every respect.

The West Country / Cornwall region

South Cornwall: between the river Tamar and river Fowey and south of Bodmin Moor is inland Cornwall at its most gentle and lovely: deep, wooded valleys (including on Bodmin Moor's southern edge) between sheep and cattle-grazed fields; tidal creeks (exceptionally pretty Lerryn is on one of them). Most of it is delightfully by-passed by main roads.
On the coast are long sandy beaches (Whitsand Bay), high headlands and sandy coves at the foot of cliffs (Lantic Bay) to walk to, two of Cornwall's loveliest cove villages (Kingsand, Cawsand) and a classic fishing village (Polperro). From Looe - river-mouth fishing village/resort with sandy beach - you can fish and sail. Round here Daphne du Maurier lived and wrote. A branch line railway chugs pleasantly from Liskeard to Looe. Don't miss the Musical Instrument Museum near St Keyne. Just to the west is Cornwall's star modern attraction, The Eden Project, worth a once-a-year visit into the future indefinite, and Lanhydrock, a very lovely National Trust house and garden. Beyond them begins the extraordinary and spectacular china clay country, good for a visit (excellent museum). You should go to Cotehele beside the Tamar, too, and Calstock for the 'messing about in boats' activity.

The Lanreath area

Lanreath: tiny village (PO, church, social club with bar) of old cottages, 5 miles inland from the pretty fishing villages of Polperro and Looe. PO/shop within walking distance. Pelynt (pub), 2 miles. Good walking country. Eden Project, 12 miles.
