"Charming, Relaxing break"
La Maison des Papillons ticked all the boxes for our week long summer break. The rural location is perfect for sitting back with a glass of wine and enjoying some peace and quiet. It was wonderful to sit and look over the rolling landscape of the valley, listening to the birds and enjoying the chance to relax without the usual hustle and bustle. There are facilities aplenty in nearby Payzac (just a short drive away) and we enjoyed stocking up at the supermarket or popping into one of the patisseries to buy some of the local produce. The pace of life is much more sedate here, and perfect for holidaymakers looking to unwind.
This is only half the story however as there are plenty of attractions not too far away if you are prepared to drive. We used the car on site which was very reliable and enjoyed a number of trips out. Pompadour and Hautefort are close by and well worth a visit to admire the stunning chateaus. Slightly further afield we found Periguex, a bustling medieval town with plenty to see and do. Dining on the square was a real treat! If you are prepared to travel back towards Limoges you can find the sombre Oradour Sur Glane - a martyred village from the 2nd world war which is well worth the drive. Overall La Maison des Papillons was perfect for everyone - its rural location allowed for plenty of relaxation (and lazy days spent with a bottle or 3 of red!) while its proximity to larger settlements meant that the more adventurous among us were able to explore the area! Highly recommended!

"Charming cottage, very peaceful and private setting."
We spent one week at this accommodation (2 adults and a 5 year old) and everything was as described. This charming cottage was very private with a secure garden for our little one to play in and a lovely view over the valley below. The cottage was also very clean and well maintained and a welcome pack with all the basics (including a bottle of wine) was left for us. There were plenty of towels and pillows and the beds were really comfy. There is plenty of storage space in the bedrooms and insect screens on one window in each bedroom, so we were able to sleep with the windows open. We used the BBQ virtually every day and spent most evenings out on the patio enjoying the sunshine.
The location is perfect if you are looking for a quiet getaway. There are bikes available although we didn't use them. Being on a hillside the view is great but the roads were too steep and had too many blind bends for a little one to ride safely. I think for adults or older kids it would be fine.
The village of Payzac is a short drive away, just across the valley and the village church can be seen from one of the bedroom windows. There are a few places to visit nearby. Lac Ruffiac is a short drive away and has a beach with safe swimming area (with lifeguard), pedalos, kayaks, playground, clean toilets & changing rooms. Chateau-le-segur also worth visiting, it has a few picnic benches by the river and is a lovely spot for some lunch.
The owner (Marie) was very helpful and always responded to our queries/questions very quickly.

"A Real Gem"
We had a brilliant time. The house is lovely everything you need, its like home from home. The beds are very comfortable and plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. A tranquil spot in the heart of the French countryside yet close to the Village of Payzac. It gets the sun most of the day so it was nice to sit out in the evenings and enjoy the view. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back. The welcome pack was much appreciated - Couldn't fault it.

"Fantastic, highly recommended."
We were very impressed with the gite and even more surprised that it was so cool even with high temperatures outside. It was extremely comfortable, plenty of space for two/four people and we loved the garden which we kept well watered during our stay.
A curtain or blind on the kitchen doors would have been great, not for privacy, but to reduce the heat in the kitchen from the sun when cooking.
The welcome pack was great. We believe in leaving a little of something for the next guests to help them along.
The wifi service provided was particularly useful as our vehicle broke down during the holiday. We were able to keep in touch with various people whilst trying to sort the issue out.
We did miss French TV a little, it was great to be able to watch UK TV, particularly as the Olympics was on but we would always like to test our French out by watching French TV.
Your communication was great, you responded promptly to emails etc which is always good as it make everyone feel secure.
We would have no problem at all in recommending your gite to our friends and family, during our stay a couple of our friends who live in France came over to stay with us and they thought the place was amazing.
Overall an exceptional property and a great place to spend a Holiday.
