Special rates for long-term winter lets. Gas Central heating is installed in the cottage and is an additional cost which is charged on the meter at cost price. The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

Although outstandingly beautiful, this area of the Dordogne is relatively undiscovered and you will find the local people extremely friendly and helpful. The summers are long and warm and during the months of July and August there are many village fairs and antique markets to visit.

The cottage is situated on the edge of 3 departments - the Dordogne, Haute Vienne and Correze. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and unspoilt with rolling hills and valleys, old stone cottages, many rivers and lakes to explore and most famously - the wonderful restaurants boasting dishes of truffles and foie gras.

It's almost like stepping back in time - the pace of life is slow and relaxed and the medieval villages and landscape look the same as they did many centuries ago. On those long, hot summer days the village folk can be found bathing in the rivers and lakes. Nearby (5km) is the ancient Forge and Chateau at Savignac Ledrier. The setting is magnificent with the weir and the backdrop of the fairytale chateau. Here you can picnic and stroll along the river and not see another person in sight. If you enjoy French cuisine, sightseeing, birdwatching, fishing and taking long nature walks then this is the place for you.

Lanouaille

The entire area is steeped in ancient history. Richard the Lionheart and Eleanor of Aquitaine frequently stayed in the Chateau at nearby Excideuil. Amongst the many other chateaux in the area is the magnificent chateau at Hautefort - a short drive away.

Sight-seeing includes the several pre-historic caves of the region - and approximately a 30 minute drive to where the earliest European humans settled. Dinosaur footprints can be found in the river bed near to Excideuil.

"Lovely quaint cottage in peaceful location"

Had a fabulous two weeks exploring rural France from a fantastic base. The cottage is very spacious and superbly equiped. The outside space is enticing you to explore when relaxing on the sunny terrace.
Although Mike and Jenny are just next door we had all the privacy we could want but with all the benefit of their recommendations of places to visit and places to eat..We can highly recommend "Des Voyageurs" in the village and the nearby "Des Forges" restaurant just a short drive away in Savignac Ledrier where we had snails for the first time!! For a short walk from the door of the cottage it is well worth a visit to the paper mill.We have visited France on several occasions and would rate "Le Petit Vallon" at the top.

"Most enjoyable stay"

This was an old quaint cottage but with loads of space and everything we could need. The outlook over the gardens at the rear was beautiful, very peaceful. We watched a red squirrel and buzzards. The sunny terrace was well used. Lots of places to visit both in the near vicinity and further afield. A most relaxing, enjoyable stay in rural France!
