The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

There is something for everyone in the Dordogne from activity holidays for the energetic, to taking in the beautiful unspoilt countryside. There are charming villages to see (Brantome, Segur le Chateau, Hautefort, Beynac, Domme - to name but a few) and the area is steeped in history with plenty of castles and chateaus. Also of interest is the famous Lascaux caves at Montignac.
There is delicious Perigord food to sample (confit de canard, truffles, foie gras) and there are plenty of restaurants in the region offering 4 course meals for as little as 15 euros.
The Lanouaille / Payzac area
Payzac is situated in the stunning countryside of the Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne. 5km away is one of the most popular leisure lakes in the region. At Base de Loisirs de Rouffiac you can enjoy swimming, fishing, canoeing, walking, sailing and water skiing.
Just 15 minutes away is one of the prettiest villages in France - the medieval village of Segur le Chateau, route of Richard the Lionheart. During July and August there is the weekly farmers market where you can buy local produce and while its cooked you can enjoy a glass of wine and listen to live music. If you enjoy walking there are plenty of walks at Segur or Savignac Ledrier is just 7km away, where you will find the ancient forge that was powered by water and also a medieval chateau . Here you can take a riverside picnic or you can walk up to the Forge restaurant in the village for refreshments or sample some of the region's speciality dishes.
Just 40 minutes away is Brantome which has a fine selection of restaurants, you can also hire a canoe , take a boat ride along the river or visit the troglodyte caves.

Guestbook for La Vielle Boulangerie
Thank you for the rental of your lovely house, it certainly has lots of character and an amazing amount of room, would love to know how you managed to paint those high ceilings! I really loved the Lily of the Valley and the bluebells in the garden, the scent was beautifull. We had a really good time at the wedding and the weather couldnt have been better. Jilly and family April 2011.
What a lovely find! This cottage was very spacious, comfortable and relaxing with a fantastic view of the open countryside from the back patio. It was well equipped with everything we needed for our holiday. The bedroom was very grand with a view of the village from the window and the log fire in the living room made for a very cosy evening with a good bottle of French red after a days sight seeing. We got fresh bread and croissants from the Boulangerie across the road every morning and the local supermarket is only a short walk away. There is a small friendly bar next door where the landlord made us very welcome. All in all it was a wonderful relaxing holiday and the perfect base to explore true French countryside . David and Helen (Preston)
My daughter and I had a great trip. The house was in a great location from which to drive to various parts of the area. We loved Brantome and St Jean de Cole and my daughter really liked the nearby lake with the beach (well she is 15!). The house was great. Comfortable beds and duvets, a French shower that worked and those beautiful windows that let in masses of light. All in all - a great break in a beautiful part of France. Helen (Cumbria) July 2011
We had a lovely time. We found the accommodation comfortable and spacious for our family of five. We used both the barbeque and the bikes, as the weather was lovely. The house is located within a nice village; whilst we were there, we went to several fetes and evening markets and in the village. We found that there was plenty to do out and about, not just at Lac du Rouffiac, but in the wider area. We did canoeing, swimming, ‘tree park climbing’, as well as visiting local towns and attractions like Gouffre de Padirac. Thank you for letting us stay in your house. Ellen, Will, James, Katharine and Elizabeth (Aug 2010)
