Summer Feedback:
House was just what we were looking for. Perfect for our families with 6 under 13s. Hot tub and TV (virtually a cinema!) were hugely popular with them. The coffee machine was quite an amusing novelty for the grown ups! Kitchen was just right for evening meals and morning breakfasts for 12 and we were even visited by two friends from Northern Spain who took numbers up to 14 and slept in the apartment. With all the bathrooms the house still did not feel overfull. So a terrific week all round, thank you. Regards - David
What a fantastic place! We had a great time. Really relaxing. Loved the pool & the hot-tub, the stars and the mountains. Awesome.
Thank you for the warm welcome. This is a beautiful setting and a very restful place to be in.
Wish I could capture and take home the beauty and peace of the evenings we enjoyed, dining under the stars. A truly wonderful time to remember. Hope to come back one day.

Recent Feedback:
"Got back today and I can speak on behalf of the whole party to say that we loved the house.
The children loved the hot tub and we were in it day and night (including the adults)
We went to visit the local Le Gouffre D'Esparros which the kids loved. The information that everyone left was fantastic. I hope that we can visit again as my family I'm sure would like to visit the place we have all been raving about..
The heating was fine, loved the fire! Also, left a saw which we bought at DIY store.
Thanks again for having us in your house and look forward to visiting again, this has got to be one of the best New years we have all had.
Kind Regards - Zoe & family

The Midi-Pyrenees / Hautes-Pyrenees region

The Pyrenees mountains form the border between France and Spain. The Pyrenees are one of the last wilderness areas of Western Europe. An extensive network of paths enable walkers to quickly find themselves miles from civilisation and surrounded by the spectacular beauty of the mountains.
Ideally situated for exploring the mountain landscapes of the Hautes Pyrenees, our farmhouse provides the perfect base from where you can discover something that appeals to your sense of adventure or if your idea of the perfect holiday involves less energetic pursuits, our farmhouse would make an entirely great choice for someone who is planning on doing nothing more than relaxing in a situation of serene rustic seclusion while appreciating good food, fine wine and spectacular views from beside the pool or in the hot-tub.
Festivals
There are numerous festivals in the area including a number of major music festivals.
There is the international jazz festival at Marciac reportedly the most important outside of America. For Country and Western fans nearby Mirande offers a yearly festival attended by many stars of country music.
There is also the nearby film festival in Aneres. A search on Google will give details and dates for each of these and other festivals in the area or I can provide links on request.
Walking
The Haute Pyrenees provides some of the best walking terrain in Europe, with routes and trails to suit all abilities.
The GR10 or Sentier Pyreneenne as it is sometimes called is a classic long distance walk across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean that takes a lower route than the more arduous Pyrenean High Route. It passes through striking mountain country and fantastic scenery.
A substantial part of the trek traverses the nearby Neouvielle Nature Reserve as the path weaves its way up through the Aygues Cluses valley and over the Col de Madamette. The valleys in the Neouvielle are marked with lots of little rivers and lakes as well as diverse wildlife and beautiful flowers.
Tour De France
Every year the tour de France passes very close. In 2007 it was literally at the bottom of the road less than a mile away. This year the July 12th stage is from Saint-Gaudens to Tarbes and so again it will be passing nearby.
St Lary-Soulan
Plenty to do and see in this typical Pyrenean resort. It is situated just up the road in the Aure Valley, with mountain peaks reaching 3092 metres.
It is here that you will find access to every possible outdoor pursuit including walking, hiking, cycling, horseriding, fishing, (permits must be obtained), bird & wildlife watching, canoeing, hot-air ballooning, canyoning, white-water rafting, parapenting, motorcycling, swimming in mountain lakes and rivers, exploring the numerous caves in the area, or if you prefer sightseeing.
There is also the fantastic Sensora Fitness Centre in the centre of the village which has landscaped pools, jacuzzis and saunas and a selection of spa treatments.
The Aragnouet-Bielsa Tunnel is 20km away and links the resort to Spain.
Nearby activities for children include the Maison d'Ours (House of Bears), Musée de la Vallée d'Aure and Les Aigles d'Aure (Aure Eagles) which is open from April until mid September.
The Aquensis thermal spa in Bagnères-de-Bigorre.
This is considered by many to be one of the best spas in europe and is certainly worth a visit
"In an exceptional decor, Aquensis, thermal spa offers a beautiful place of relaxation where the hot and beneficial thermal waters and its personalized care shall give you a sense of wellbeing and pleasure.
This thermal spa welcomes you into a magnificent architectural and ecologically designed space, a harmonious blend of wood, glass and light."
There are some lovely walks and restaurants in Bagnères and combined with the spa can make a great day out.
Lourdes
Less than an hours drive away the small town of Lourdes centres around the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, the largest Catholic pilgrimage destination in France and perhaps the most popular Catholic sacred site in the world. The town of only 17,000 inhabitants receives more than 5 million pilgrims and tourists each year.
The beaches of Biarritz are 2 hours away on the Atlantic coast and can make an interesting, contrasting day out or even the incredibly pretty seaside town of Collioure a 3 hour drive in the opposite direction on the Mediterranean.
The Lannemezan area
Nearest Village - La Barthe De Neste (1 minute drive or a 20 minute walk)
La Barthe De Nest is a bustling village with a brand new tourist information centre where you can find information on the whole region. The village also has a number of small shops, a bakery, bar, cafe, pharmacy, restaurant, hairdressers and (importantly) a fantastic artisan chocolatery. There is an excellent sports centre with gymnasium and superb tennis facilities, including both indoors and outdoor clay courts.
La Barthe De Neste also has a very popular local market every Sunday.
Nearest Town - Lannemezan (5 Minute drive)
Lannemezan is principally a small market town, but its situation guarantees the vistor some beautfiul scenery and walking routes including 400 hecatres of woodland. There are a dozen restaurants and lots of amenties (supermarkets, banks, post office, hospital, doctor, chemist etc). There are many streams & rivers for fishing. The River Save and River Baise both have their source in the Plateau de Lannemezan. There are 2 lakes, La Plantade where fishing is possible, and the leisure lake Le Lac de la Demi-Lune where there are pedaloes, ducks and swans to keep the children amused.
Lannemezan has a great market every Wednesday and is a great place to meet people and stock up on local wine, cheeses and other produce. You can find local red or rose wine for about a euro a litre and it is the same wine that is used by many local restaurants - take your own containers and join the queue. The local Brebis cheese can normally be found nearby and you can always try before you buy.
Golf at Lannemezan
Lannemezan 18 hole Golf Course is recognised as the best in the Midi Pyrénées. At 5808 metres in length and par 70, this course in no pushover!! Set in 40 hectares, level terrain, all the fairways are lined with magnificent mature trees and from the southern end of the course there are stunning views of the Pyrenees. The course is open all the year and visitors are welcome.
Attached to the Club House is the “Pre Vert” restaurant with indoor and outdoor facilities for dining, snacks and drinks. The “Pre Vert” is open throughout the year with a menu that covers everything from omelettes to regional specialities. It is a big favourite with the locals because of its cuisine and the delightful view from the terrace.
South facing driving range : Play from grass or mats (6 covered, 12 exterior).
Putting green and grass bunker in front of the club house.
There are also excellent golf courses in Tarbes and Bagneres - about a 30 minute drive.
Try some wine tasting at some of the region's vineyards including Jurancon, Madiran, Pacherenc, Cotes de St Mont and Tursan.

A quiet farmhouse with stunning views. Househas plenty of space and many "boys toys". Kitchen is perfectly acceptable with the ability to cook well. Local area pleasent and unspoilt with little feeling of being too touristy. Good restaurants locally but beware of Monday closing. I believe Graham is upgrading the basics at present and these should increase the comfort considerably. Lots of beds, bathrooms and towels. We were too early to use the pool but the setting is peacefula dn provides a good base for may types of holiday. |

There were 12 of us, on a week's walking trip, so we needed a large house with 12 separate beds. There were not quite enough beds when we arrived (lots of double beds) but Graham had them in place well before bed-time. We cooked quite a bit and the large kitchen / diner was great for this - also lots of space to eat outside. Decent sized pool and hot tub (stopped working but again quickly fixed) We would come back except we never do (come back) - off to Italian Alps this year |

Stayed here with a load of biker mates and wives. Had a marvellous stay with a friendly and welcoming host. Excellent base to come back to after a good days ride out to relax in the jacuzzi or have a swim in the pool and then chill out with a BBQ looking out at the Pyrenees. Everyone said they had a whale of a time with some mentioning a return visit. |

An excellent week thank you. Skiing every day with plenty of snow and Espiaube St Lary was definitely the place to go. House was just what we were looking for. The holiday was GREAT we Love your Place - John
Thanks for a wonderful holiday. I've had nothing but glowing reports from all of the rest of the party. Only one problem that I could see, your place made it too tempting to just laze around in the pool or the Jacuzzi and not get out and about on the bikes (the main reason for coming to the Pyrenees!). Thanks again for a marvellous time - Frank
The accommodation worked well for our group, and we all agreed it would be
good to use it again on our next trip to the area. You have a great character property in a
terrific position. - Paul (Cycling Group)
Had a great time here with friends in the summer 2008 and will be coming back in 2009. Lots to do nearby and loved the big double hammock in the garden - Zoe
Came back in 2009 and yes, once again we all had a great time - Zoe & Sarah
Location location location - if you are looking for privacy and spectacular views, this place is in an unbeatable position. Its also well-placed for access to the mountains and close to La Barthe-De-Neste which has a lovely Sunday market - Jim, Gemma, Hope and Toby
