The Midi-Pyrenees / Hautes-Pyrenees region

The Haute Pyrenees are situated in a beautiful and relatively undiscovered corner of South West France. Autumn extends well into late November, and by March spring has arrived. It is possible to lunch outside for most of the year. Take the cable car to the weather station on the Pic de Midi de Bigorre, 2887 metres high. Visit the world famous Lourdes. . Take the train from Lannemezan and visit the airbus factory in Toulouse. Soak up the atmosphere of the Tour de France. Red Kites, Eagles and Griffon Vultures can all be seen in the area. Trout fishing is very popular in the Nestes Valley, with Saint Laurent de Neste hosting the world championships in September 2007. There are countless trails and paths to explore by foot or cycle, from easy walks close to the house, to the famous GR10 long distance footpath which links the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
The Lannemezan area
Lannemezan is 10 minutes drive from the house, and has bars restaurants, shop, supermarkets with a cosmopolitan feel. n Wednesday mornings the local market takes over the town. Street upon street bustles with colourful local stalls selling good quality local produce. There is an 18 hole golf course in Lannemezan, with a beautiful terrace restaurant overlooking the Pic de Midi. Lannemezans close proximity to the A64 autoroute allow easy access to all major towns and attractions in the area, without the traffic jams. New for July 2011 in Saint Laurent de Neste, a 1000m square eco swimming pool, with fitness course, beach and beach volleyball.

I was looking for a 'bach' like my family used to go to in NZ and I found it. A hideaway where you dont do ANYTHING. We soon developed a routine: reading, lazing about, maybe a trip to market, fresh peaches from the tree by the bach with yoghurt, a bit more reading, a swim in the pool (just down the drive but far enough to make the bach secluded), a trip to several spas within an hour's drive. In the evening we bbqed on our terrace looking out to the pyrenees. There is an incredible stillness at the bach, perfect peace. Beautiful weather. There is lots more to do, we just didnt do it except for a good strenuous pyreneen hike with John & Kath one day. They are the perfect owners. Friendly, warm, respectful of privacy, knowledgable about the area partic re walking/running. The cabin is clean, well equipped, and simple, exactly as it's meant to be. The chickens visit, Robbie the dog visits, kittens upped love quotient. Wonderful holiday, thanks John & Kath. x |

Lovely cottage, perfectly suited to a couple's retreat or friends' getaway. Cute and rustic decor, practical kitchen and amazingly comfortable bed! Beautiful surroundings, acres of land breeming with gorgeous flora and fauna. Dark night skies, the best stars I have ever seen. Romantic surroundings. Deer, red kites, frogs, chickens, goats , dogs, cats. We paid a trip to the supermarche and stocked up, cooking our own food every nite but one. On this occasion, we ate the owner's house/restuarant. This was a thoroughly enjoyed evening, with delicious and hearty food and great company. We also took the opportunity to buy some of the beautiful Twisted Silver home-made jewelry that was on sale- a great pressie to take home, at a reasonable price. In the daytime, we followed some of the hiking trails for wonderful walks in this idyllic countryside. Highly recommended! Extremely friendly, helpful and hospitable owners. Very suited to nature/animal lovers / sporty types / hikers OR anyone who just wants a break from the hustlebustle of city life. |

"Au Revoir" but not "Goodbye" Thanks so much for sharing your calm generous hospitality with us this week. We can't recall many weeks we have enjoyed so much. You have created a precious oasis. We will so miss your "Pyrenees". Can't wait to return.

An absolutely beautiful and breathtaking location. We would both like to thank you for making us so welcome during our stay, and for recommending a beautiful walk in the countryside. Once again, many thanks for a lovely stay in the Pyrenees.
Hope to see you both again in the future.
