The Cornwall region
In the last decade Cornwall has emerged as one of the world's iconic destinations. From the dramatic coastline of the north to the sheltered bays in the south, from ancient moorland to soft river estuaries, surfers, walkers, sailing buffs, gastronauts and visitors simply seeking a break from a hectic world have discovered a fascinating, vibrant culture, first class accommodation, food to die for and a naturally thrilling adventure playground.
There is so much more to Cornwall than just fabulous scenery and beautiful beaches. The history of this county is rich and vivid, and never more so than when remnants of its past are stumbled upon during rambling walks through the countryside.
Towns and villages that date back hundreds of years, with stories of wreckers and legends of old are there to be imagined when walking through narrow winding streets down to the harbour. And to bring you bang up to date there are modern art galleries to discover plus fantastic shopping with high street stores and unique boutiques and craft shops cheek by jowl.
Cornwall now boasts some of the finest, restaurants, art galleries, museums, country houses, gardens and shops with something for everyone to enjoy. However you want to spend your leisure time while on holiday in Cornwall, the county pretty much has it covered (except maybe for skiing!). There are tourist attractions aplenty to suit all age groups from families to grandparents, and of every sort from stately homes and tea rooms to full throttle fun parks.
Bodmin is one of Cornwall’s most fascinating towns steeped with history that will enthral and delight everyone. Situated in the centre of Cornwall it is perfect for exploring in-land and is also within easy reach of both the North and South coastlines.
The 83-acre Beacon Nature Reserve has breath-taking views to both the moor and coast. Of course, the rugged granite and gauze moors are a must see along with Bodmin Jail, the areas spooky attraction where you can really get a feel for how the prisoners lived and the punishments they were given.
The Camel Trail offers 18 miles of traffic-free walking, cycling and horse riding along the River Camel. Head for the edge of enigmatic Bodmin Moor or coastwards, along the Camel Estuary to the market town of Wadebridge and then onto the charming harbour at Padstow. There are also walking and cycling trails leading to the South Coast, taking in Lanhydrock, Lostwithiel, Fowey and the famous Eden Project.
Just outside of Bodmin town you can discover the grand Georgian Houses of Pencarrow and Lanhydrock, both set in lush gardens and woods, and the famous Camel Valley Vineyard where you can taste the award-winning wines.
If you fancy a day away from exploring, Bodmin town offers a selection of art and craft shops mixed in with well known high street stores. Bodmin also has a host of restaurants, café’s and bars mixed in with more traditional country inns. Bodmin has such a large variety of things to see and do there is something to suit everyone.
