Further details

The chalet is ideal for two families or an extended family with relatives to share together. Each apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom, the kitchens in both properties are finished to an extremely high standard.

A staircase separates the two properties and thus the apartments can be rented separately with a lockable door dividing the two properties if required. The downstrairs sitting room or "stube" is a cosey play area for children (where they can watch videos too if they wish). Upstairs the parents can relax in the sitting room on the leather sofas, by the log fire or simply just enjoy the stunning view through the panorama window.

The Graubunden region

Arosa is a settlement of the Walser, founded in the Middle Ages. Nowadays Arosa is a very touristic place, in winter and summer. The rest of the Valley is much quieter and less touristic. Beside tourisme agriculture still plays an important part here. Birds are everywhere but the slope on the eastern side between Langwies and Arosa seems to be the best area. There are a lot of hiking trails. You can start in Langwies and walk up to Medergen, from where you continue to Tschuggen, pass through the forest to Gruenseeli, Iselwald and then down to Arosa. Buy a map of the area (1:25'000) not to get lost.

At the little artifical lake beneath Arosa Waders can be seen sometimes. At the railway station several species of Ducks can be found. They all descend from introduced birds. If you spend two or three days in the area you should find at least some of the harder to find species.

Langwies

For skiers and snowboarders, Arosa offers 60 km of prepared pistes and 40 km of off-piste areas and there are 13 modern ski lifts or cable cars to take visitors up to as much as 2,653 metres above sea level. There are also attractive routes for snow-shoe trekkers and toboggan riders, a fun park on the Tschuggen for freestyle snow boarders and, nearby, a world class half pipe. For non-skiers there are 60 km of winter walking trails, some of which lead to the winter sports areas. Other popular activities include curling, tandem paragliding and ballooning.

Arosa, some 1,800 metres above sea level and located at the end of the Schanfigg Valley, is not only a winter resort but its imposing mountain landscape makes it a perfect hiking region. There are more than 200 walking, hiking and mountain trails and amongst the most popular are the two hour round trip to the Langwieser Aussicht viewpoint, the 2.2 km Planet Pathway and the Isel natural history footpath, which leads to the Altein Waterfall. Further attractions include the water show and boat trips on the on the Obersee, swimming in the Untersee and much more.

"A magical place in the Swiss Alps"

My husband and I had a most enjoyable and memorable stay in the upper appartment of Chalet Im Wieselti in Langwies. Arriving after dark, we woke the next day to the tinkling of cow and sheep bells in the surrounding fields/meadows, the whistle of the train as it neared the famous Langwies viaduct and breathtaking and uninterrupted panoramic views (from all the main living areas of the chalet) of snow-capped mountain peaks, verdant pinewoods, colourful wildflower meadows and the pretty little alpine village of Langwies. We had hot and sunny weather throughout our entire stay and enjoyed evenings relaxing on the beautiful balcony after a days hiking. The chalet was spotlessly clean, the lounge and dining areas were particularly spacious and the kitchen was extremely well equipped. We also had access to the downstairs laundry facilities. The caretaker, who lives next door, was very welcoming and available to assist with anything. The owners were also most helpful in providing information and advice on the chalet and the surrounding area and responding promptly to emails. The location is fantastic - quiet, peaceful and rural - it felt like we were stepping back in time. We rarely took the car out as there were so many scenic and interesting walks from the chalet itself. One of the unexpected highlights of our walks were the friendly family-run mountain restaurants serving excellent food with sun terraces that had magnificent views. The beautiful resort of Arosa (which we also found to be quiet and unspoilt) was a short drive away (or we could have taken the train) and was perfect for shopping, walking and cable car rides. We would highly recommend both this property and location to others. Infact, we enjoyed it so much that we are already planning to return to this magical place in the Swiss Alps.

"Comfortable, Relaxing, and Peaceful!"

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chalet. We opted to use the public transit system and looked forward to beginning our days with the picturesque and brisk walk down to the train station, and to the return hike up to the chalet at the end of our days' adventures! The weather was beautiful and we spent most of our evenings on the balcony overlooking the valley, listening to the tinkling of the sheep and goats' bells as they grazed on the mountainside above the chalet and to the whistle of the mountain train as it passed through the village twice each hour. Vivienne, the owner, was extremely helpful in assisting us with preparing for our vacation, and checked in with us a couple of times during our stay. The caretakers, Rene and Mary, live next door to the chalet and were a delight! Mary was at the train station to greet us up on arrival, and help us get our luggage to the chalet. She saw us off at the station on our last day as well. Rene was available at a moment's notice when a need arose. We also enjoyed exploring the village and getting to know a few of the inhabitants...all were very friendly and welcoming. All in all, our experience met all expectations! We are SO glad that we opted to rent the Chalet!
