Carefully and sympathetically restored in 2006, the cottage is light and airy with modern facilities. By preserving original features like the ancient fireplace, the owners have maintained its rustic charm.

The cottage is located in northern Morbihan in a small rural hamlet next to a sixteeth century chapel dedicated to Saint Brendan. Its central location in Brittany makes it an ideal location for short, medium and long walks both locally along country paths and on the nearby Montagnes Noires and on coastal paths. The south coast is 40 minutes away, the north coast an hour's drive.

There are several nearby historical market towns like Le Faouet, Gourin and Rostrenen to explore with excellent reasonably priced creperies and restaurants. Within an hour's drive are the larger historical and cultural centres of Quimper,Pontivy, Pont Aven, Lorient and Concarneau.

Further details indoors

The cottage front door leads into a spacious, high-ceilinged lounge/dining room. Stairs lead up to the mezzanine bed-room with double bed. The view from the French windows at the back is very attractive as they open out to the back garden and patio where there are mature trees and shrubs.

The well-equipped kitchen has an electric cooker and the latest induction hob. The shower-room has been fitted with a thermostatically controlled Grohe shower.

Further details outdoors

Apart from the extensive grass area at the back of the house, a peaceful area for sunbathing, reading, barbecues etc, the cottage looks onto a large grassed village green type area which belongs to the cottage and can be used for ball games, eating out etc

Further details

Ideas for possible activities nearby and further afield will be sent with booking confirmation and are also available with maps, opening hours of local shops etc in a folder in the cottage.

An English-speaking lady who lives in the hamlet is on hand to answer any questions should the owner be away during your visit.

Previous visitors at the cottage have commented that the four other French people who live in the hamlet have been very welcoming and only too happy to pass the time of day either in English or French!

The Brittany region

Brittany is a very special place. Its landscape and culture are similar to those of Cornwall but with wider horizons and without thecrowds. It's a pleasure to drive on the uncongested roads and park for free right next to the beach.

The cottage is located close to where 3 departments of France meet- the Cotes D'Armor in the north and Finistere to the north and west with their wild, rocky coastlines, stunning beaches and attractive fishing ports and the department of Morbihan in the south with its more gentle landscape and coast, and the wooded river valleys of the Scorff and Blavet to name but two. Further south in Morbihan are the prehistoric sites at Carnac and the sailing area of the Golfe de Morbihan.

There are historic towns like Quimper and Pontivy to explore, the ports of Lorient/Pont Louis and Concarneau to visit and the art galleriesof Pont Aven and Le Faouet to enjoy. Sit for a drink or meal at the cafes and restaurants lining the creek at Doelan or Guidel Plage. The beaches are too numerous to mention but are all listed in the folder to be found at the cottage.

Nearby Langonnet is handy for local shopping and eating out and there's a lake there for pedalo rides and swimming. The bigger market towns of Gourin, Le Faouet and Rostrenen are less than 30 minutes drive away and there are large supermarkets there for more serious shopping. There is also a wide range of restaurants, bars, creperies and pizzerias in these towns.

Artists have for centuries been drawn to Le Faouet and the local museum/art gallery holds annual exhibitions.

There are many local footpaths and trails for long and short walks on foot or on horseback from a local riding school.

The Brest-Nantes canal is nearby and can be easily explored by bike or on foot.

The area is well-known for its Fest Diez and Fest Noz celebrations, local festivals which seem to take place every weekend somewhere in the local area, often with boules competitions, Breton dancing displays, food and dancing. It's important to keep an eye out for posters advertising these in local shop windows. In St Brendan itself one takes place on the second Sunday in July starting with a procession to the chapel for the annual service there and followed by a meal in the local barn (300 covers were served last year!), various afternoon activities and competitions, a dinner and dancing at night.

Other local attractions include the lake at Priziac and the chateau at Trevarez.

In Carhaix in July there is the Breton equivalent of the Glastonbury festival and in August in Lorient the amazing festival of Celtic culture, the Festival Interceltique, takes place throughout the town for two weeks with groups of dancers and musicians from Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Galicia joining in with Breton ones.

"A place to get away from it all"

This cottage is very well appointed and in a quiet hamlet, so very peaceful. There is good walking in the immediate area. Although the nearest shopping / eating facilities are some 3 miles away, its location means that travel to major towns and the Brittany coast is less than an hour away. Ideal for 2 (plus a little one)

We stayed in this beautifully restored cottage for a week over Christmas and it was exactly what we hoped it would be. The owners were extremely helpful and had everything organised for us very quickly. The house has been kitted out with everything you may need (especially in the kitchen), the fireplace is a real bonus and we were left with a full shed of firewood to keep us cozy throughout the week. Definitely worth a visit!

"I can say it one word: FAULTLESS!!"

Despite the cottage being tiny, it was perfect, beautifully restored to an exceptionally high standard. Every conceivable home comfort; quiet, relaxing. A perfect bolt hole to recharge the batteries. The only 'fault' was the weather and no one can solve that problem....if only!
