The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region
Brittany is a fascinating area of France with a warm and temperate climate. It has its own identity and culture, and there are many historic places to visit and interesting things to do. From the house its just an easy drive to countless outstanding, safe and clean sandy beaches, rocky coves, bustling fishing ports and coastal paths - perfect from family holidays.
Inland from the coast you will find lush countryside with pretty villages and market towns, lakes and rivers. Of particular interest is the nearby town of Plancoet (famous for its spring water) that hosts a weekly market, shops, several cafe's and an outstanding restaurant, riverside walks and beautiful park. Within a 30 minute drive is the Rance River with it's abundance of wildlife, resorts and marina's, and a riverside path/cycleway stretching from Dinard to the Old Port of the medieval town of Dinan (and beyond to the heart of Brittany).
Within a very short drive is an extensive lake system leading to the tiny town of Jugon-les-Lacs with its beautiful lake offering watersports and fishing, its market square boasting several restaurants and cafe's, and its unusual architecture. This part of Brittany is famous for its seafood restaurants that serve shellfish and seafood caught locally, crepes and gallettes and, of course, local cider and wine!
Landebia area
Within walking distance of The Well is the ancient, unspoilt Hunaudaye Forest with its evocative Chateau just a short drive away. The village of Landebia has a beautiful church, a bar with grocery section and a train station, with daily trains travelling the short distance to Dinan and Lamballe, two historic market towns with stations leading to major towns and cities in Brittany and France.
Most of the surrounding villages, and all the towns, hold special festivals celebrating their culture and pride in their local food and wine, music and dance.
The nearby Chateau d'Hunaudaye holds musical, dramatic and film nights throughout the summer months, and the surrounding area offers a wealth of restaurants, cafe's and creperies offering live entertainment as well as local dishes.
How to get there
Dinard airport (Pleurtuit) has direct flights with Ryanair from Birmingham (Summer only), East Midlands, and Stanstead airports. Prices can change on a daily basis so worth checking regularly on ryanair.com site.
Car hire is available from the airport and for the most competitive quotes check at travelsupermarket.com
Brittany Ferries sail from Portsmouth to St. Malo (also check sailings Pymouth/Roscoff and Portsmouth/Caen or Le Havre).
Condor Ferries operate fast ferries to St. Malo from Poole and Weymouth which reduces the crossing time to under 5 hours.
The most economical crossings are with Transmarche Ferries from Newhaven to Dieppe or LD Lines Newhaven to Dieppe or La Havre. The shorter routes from Dover and through Eurotunnel are very competitively priced, especially if you can travel during the night.
Remember to add driving times, petrol costs and road tolls to these when looking at overall costs. They may not be as cheap as they first appear! Route Finder websites sites will do this for you.

Guestbook for The Well
We had our best holiday ever at The Well, discovering some of the finest beaches and coves we've ever enjoyed, walking part of the north Breton coastal path with it's fascinating views. We regularly return to The Well because there is so much to see and do. Mr. and Mrs. P. Baker, Tewksbury.
Our family loved The Well because it offered something for each generation - a comfortable and well equipped home for relaxing and providing a central place from which to enjoy cycling, fishing, sunbathing, eating out at quayside restaurants, sight-seeing and trying out our French in local markets, towns and villages. Mrs. C. Andrews, Redditch.
We are looking forward to returning to The Well to introduce our first grandchild to the place that we are very fond of. Richard and Janet
We've had two fantastic holidays at The Well with our family aged from 3 to 16 and would give it our highest recommendation. Jo and Sean Lindsey, Redditch.
