Home description
The house was fully restored in 2005, maintaining its character whilst adding all that’s needed for a relaxing holiday. The original fireplaces are still in the lounge and large dining room and the first floor still has the original terracotta tiles.
It is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom house that is set within 1/3rd acre overlooking the village of Castelfrentano in one direction & the Gran Sasso (the highest mountain in Italy outside of the Alps) in the other.
The kitchen is fully fitted with a large range cooker and granite work surfaces making it an excellent place to enjoy some fresh Italian food.
As you can see from the details below there are 2 bedrooms on the first floor, a double and king size, and 2 bedrooms on the second floor, each containing 3 single beds. All bedrooms have air conditioning.
The house which comfortably sleeps 10 has its own pool; large terrace (great for sitting under in the heat of the midday sun sipping the first Peroni of the day), and balcony to take in the views of the mountains.
Castel Frentano is a village with 3000 inhabitants. It has all the facilities that you would expect with bars, restaurants & shops all within 1km walking distance from the house. Nearby, the town of Lanciano has a population of 30,000 & has plenty of restaurants, an historic medieval centre with cathedral and plenty of parks & open spaces
8 x 4m pool set in 1/3rd acre private gated garden
Lounge with 2 sofas, armchair, TV/DVD and hi-fi

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
Undiscovered rural Europe: The Sunday Times 21st January 2007 ABRUZZO Italy
With the choice bits of Tuscany and Umbria crushed under the British and American heel, look over the Apennines to Abruzzo, where in some corners there are still fewer Brits than bears. It’s only an hour from Rome on the autostrada, but it’s the capital’s best-kept secret.
Admittedly, the region falls short on quattrocento frescoes, boutique hotels and designer shops. What it does have, however, at the very top of the Apennines, is more national-park territory than any other region in Europe, with virgin forests, clear lakes and high meadows filled with wild flowers. And, as you roll down towards the Adriatic, you’ll encounter arty hill towns (Atri, Penne, Guardiagrele), Roman ruins (Alba Fucens), lovely regional cooking involving saffron or chillies, and surprisingly refined wines.
Best of all, though, is that Italian civility, charm and wonderful sense of well-being, without the crowds and the traffic.
Lanciano area
The nearby town of Lanciano is a medium sized walled medieval town. It has many extra facilities you may need as well as a lot of history including a duomo (cathedral). There are at least 2 large supermarkets where you can get local food as well as other English items (often required by children) & plenty of other shops. The cafes and ice cream parlours are a great way to pass the time and watch Italian life.
We love the area because it is the real unspoilt Italy. There are very few English people and the Italians are very friendly. We have been looked after and well fed by the people from the village we now call our friends. The food is excellent. You can buy such local fresh food that shopping is a joy and very sociable, the local greengrocer stocks local vegetables and the butcher local meats and salamis.
Castelfrentano is a large village which provides all the local facilities you need. There is a local butcher, green grocer, and supermarket as well as a fishmonger and cheese man all selling fresh local food. There are also a number of bars, cafes and 2 restaurants.
How to get there
Flights from throughout the UK into Rome & Ancona (2 hours away) & Pescara (45 minutes). Cheap car hire is available through holiday autos Hertz & many others.

Further details
The house is ideal for couples and families with bedroom accommodation spaced out over 2 floors. Having been totally restored and refurbished the standard and quality is excellent.
'This rugged part of central Italy is less famous for art than for bears. The Abruzzo bear that thrives in the highest fastnesses of the Appenines, only an hour and a half from Rome, is this region's totem animal. He wants to remind us than no region in Europe has no more of its land dedicated as national parks. Underneath the snow capped Gran Sasso d'Italia, the bears share space with ski runs, broad alpine meadows and virgin beech forests.' The Sunday Times London June 5 2005.
