Home description

Lanciano is older than Rome and has become a small city. It is located in the hills, 15 minutes from the Adriatic coast. Within one hour you can drive up to the Maiella mountain for skiing in the winter. There are also lakes nearby, incase you prefer rafting. Restaurants serve fresh fish and meat and the wine is excellent. People still have the time of day and the climate is very mild.

The atmosphere and colours in the early evening make it easy to escape and fall in love with this incredible city.

Lanciano is a very beautiful small city older than Rome. It has a population of about 70,000 and is 269 meters above sea level. Lanciano still maintains its antique character and warmth as a typical real Italian city. The city is based on rolling hills which steadily grow higher as you head towards the mountain. It is 15 minutes from the sea, 45 minutes from Pescara airport (flights available from Ryanair) and 50 minutes from ski resorts (by car). Just over an hour away is Italy’s third biggest skiing resort Roccaraso. There are a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants where you can eat any type of local cuisine. There are some unique historical and architectural buildings and churches and there is a world famous Eucharistic miracle housed in Lanciano.
Scattered around the hills near Lanciano are towns and villages with local specialties and secret beauties to discover on day trips.

You can visit a Cathedral built on a bridge or the Abbey overlooking the cliffs along the Adriatic. Why not take a boat trip on lake Bomba or snowboard in the mountains. There are grottos at Palena, a castle on a dormant volcano at Roccascalegna or just relax on the miles of sandy or pebbly beaches.
The major festival is from 14th to the 16th September, and it's big. However, through the whole of August to the middle of September there is something for everyone every evening - real Italian silly season. The festival season in Abruzzo takes off from May.

How to get there

- Fly to Pescara airport via Ryanair and its 45 minutes south along the A14. Leave the motorway at the Lanciano exit. Head to the centre of Lanciano, the house is close to the main squre near the indoor market.
- Fly to Rome, take the A24 motorway to the Adriatic side near Pescara. Then head south along the A14 and follow the above directions.
