The Northern England / Lancashire region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline. A haven for walkers, the area also boasts great cycling, gliding, riding and fishing, whilst North York Moors Railway is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery in a more relaxed setting.
Visit the market towns of Pickering or Thirsk; the latter famous for its links with the English country vet and author, James Herriot. Nearby, some of Yorkshire’s best-loved villages including Thornton-le-Dale and Rosedale Abbey offer a taste of village life, as does Goathland, ‘Aidensfield’ in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’. Finally, stop off at Castle Howard and Duncombe Park, two of Britain’s most historic stately homes situated in breathtaking parklands and gardens.
The cliffs, sandy beaches and smugglers’ caves of the Yorkshire coastline are a haven for beachcombers and coastal walkers. Discover the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, with their brightly coloured fishing boats. Finally, there’s the historic city of York, with its interactive Viking Centre, Roman walls, medieval streets, vibrant shops and gothic York Minster cathedral.
The Lancaster / Tatham area
High above the traditional Yorkshire market town of Bentham sits the small settlement of Fourstones. Situated by the so-called Great Stone – apparently a large boulder, deposited during the last Ice Age that has since become a distinctive feature of the landscape - this attractive village is on the boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire. From this large rock visitors can see the spectacular views over the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland – all three of these areas offer fabulous walking and cycling opportunities for all levels of fitness. The town of Bentham has a range of pubs and restaurants serving fine beers and good food and is within easy driving distance. This charming little town also boasts a wide variety of shops and a post office.

Guestbook for 1889 - Lower Croasdale
We booked the property for a relaxing week with friends and family and it offered the perfect setting in the middle of nowhere yet close enough to the local villages for days out and shopping. The property itself was stunning, as were the views, and the warmth of the ambiance in the cottage was amazing. There were fresh flowers and a tea tray laid out upon arrival which made us feel immediately welcome. The house itself, an old farm property, was fresh, light and well presented, the furnishings and decor were modern yet sympathetic to the age of the building. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed gathering at the table for breakfasts and evening meals. The lounge was perfect for sitting with a glass of wine, a good read and chatting in front of the log fire. Would we go back? Absolutely!

,The property has been converted and modernised to a high standard, with effective central heating even for the Pennine winter. The property is situated far from the road, which gives a glorious sense of peace and isolation.

,The whole holiday was fantastic and the cottage and surroundings are lovely with the nearest village only 10 minutes away.

,The peace and quiet. The area being borderline of 3 counties. The property was the best equipped we have ever stayed in. The thoughtfulness of the owner/caretaker in small things that mean a lot after travelling a long way to see that tea, coffee, milk and biscuits to name a few, await you on arrival.
