Home description
Mountain House is located in a farm just 12 km from the Douro Valley where port wine is produced, which has recently been recognized by UNESCO as world heritage. Being so close to the river Douro makes it possible for visitors to enjoy trips by boat on the river including visits to wine cellars.
This property covering 8 acres of lawns, shrubs, and trees (most of them oak), has been in our family for more than 200 years. The house is located at an altitude of 750 metres with a spectacular view over a beautiful valley facing a mountain of great beauty. Sitting in the garden or by the pool, gazing at the view, breathing fresh air, it's a great place to relax due to the fact of being totally isolated in nature, the nearest house is the owner's house at a distance of 60 metres.

This area of Portugal is rich in landscape and cultural heritage. This is a mountain area with a dry climate. It is hot in summer although temperatures drop in the evening.
Winter is usually cold; temperatures can drop to 2 or 3 degrees below zero at night. Occasionally we also have snow.
Lamego area
The origins of Lamego go back in time as far as the Roman colonization of this part of the Iberian peninsula. Lamego was an Arab town until the tenth century . The town possesses numerous monuments and is embraced by a beautiful natural landscape. The local museum is worth a visit.

Guestbook for Mountain House
The welcome and quality of service are the best we have ever experienced. Magda and Jose are lovely people, nothing is too much trouble and they are concerned with your comfort and welfare. The house is beautiful, very clean, sympathetically restored and immaculately maintained. The views from the house are second to none and to have the absolute luxury of having your own swimming pool. It's a pleasure to explore the splendid mountains and to stop off at a restaurant to sample the varied cuisine. If you enjoy seeking the history and culture there are many monasteries and sites to visit, a trip to Anta "the deserted village" is a must. Trips to Lamego and Regua offer a range of experiences. Markets, dining. clubs and a trip along the River Douro is recommended perhaps visiting one of the many impressive vineyards patch worked across the mountains to sample the delicious rich port wines. We would recommend this place to anyone, comfort is the key here, but you must enjoy driving. All in all we had a fantastic time and long to return very soon
