Some sites are not to be missed : the abbey of St Avit Senieur, classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, the fortified church of Beaumont, Bannes and Montferrand castles... where echoes remain of the sound of battle.

The region The bastide of Beaumont du Perigord was built by the English in the 12th c during the 100 years war between France and England, thus the area is steeped in history. The Aquitaine/Dordogne region

Climate : The summers are quite hot with an average of 30-35°degres and even hotter sometimes so don't forget your sunscreen lotion. The best months to come over and visit the area are may and June because the days could be delightfully warm.September and October are also excellent : after some morning fog, the sun comes through and the afternoons are warm and pleasant. Average temperatures for september & may : 24°c (75°F), for october : 18°c (64°F).

History : If you're mad into history... this is the perfect area. The Dordogne is packed with pre historic places (Les Eysies for example), castles, and bastides, medieval towns...

Places of interest : vineyards with wine tasting, local cheese (Trappe d'Echourgnac for example), Bergerac (Cyrano).

For kiddies, you can experience some fun canoeing on the Dordogne or Vezere, visit pre historic caves (Gouffre de Proumeyssac) or the biggest aquarium in soft water (Aquarium du Périgord Noir), go-karting, and the list goes on. ....If you feel brave enough you can even go on life time experience : a trip on a hot air ballon to admire the Dordogne valley and its beautiful sites.

"Couldn't have wished for better..."

We absolutely loved our stay at L'Ancienne Ecole, it totally exceeded our expectations. We were a group of nine, ages ranging from 4 to 60+. This was our first large family holiday so it was important we found somewhere that would give us both the space we required and a hassle free stay. We definitely succeeded.

We flew into Bergerac, it took us 25 minutes to drive from there to the house and the route was really straightforward. The house is beautiful, very private and secure, yet a stone's throw away from the centre of the pretty little village of Beaumont du Perigord. Having previously stayed in more remotely situated properties in France, we were really glad we'd opted for something slightly different on this occasion. The village is close enough to be really convenient but just the right distance away to not feel like you're right in the middle of it. The handful of little patisseries, butchers, restaurants and cafe/bars situated around the village square were perfect to pick up groceries from or to relax outside of. A slightly larger supermarket was just a five minute drive up the road.

The house itself offered plenty of space, so we never felt like we were under one another's feet. The interior decor is clean and modern, ideal if you were staying out of season or had a rainy day inside. The bedrooms were all clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. The pool area is gorgeous, peaceful and a great sun trap. The built in BBQ and outside dining area easily accommodated us twice a day for long, lazy meals. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and perfect for long walks or runs. With everything we needed and the comfort it offered us, we only ended up leaving the house/village once during our stay! No need to go anywhere if you're just looking for a relaxing break with family and/or friends.

Isabelle and Paul (the owners) were delightful and very helpful, especially answering our questions prior to the trip and providing us with detailed information in preparation for our stay.

I can safely say we all left wishing we had much longer in this wonderful house. It will be hard not to go back there again as the property and location ticked so many boxes for us.

PS. Don't miss the Monday night food-market/banquet in the village square, a really great experience (bring your own booze and cutlery though!).

"A beautiful house in a great location"

We highly recommend L'ancienne Ecole. It is a really beautiful house, very private yet in the heart of the village with its bars , restaurants and local shops. The swimming pool is fantastic to cool off in after hours soaking up the sun. You can spend your whole holiday enjoying the house and village or use it as a base to explore the region - either way it's a real treat.

"Excellent property - Excellent location"

Lovely property enhanced by a very relaxing location. Long time since we have stayed in a residential area -usually opting for more remote properties. But location added so much to the enjoyment of our holiday - aided by lovely weather. Great to walk just a few minutes to buy bread, deli stuff at local shops and market. Pleasant unchallenging local walks from the house! Bergerac old town good and many local chateaux and restaurants withiin easy access.
