La Ferme du Manoir is a classic honey-toned Dordogne stone building, renovated with care and attention to ensure a beautifully decorated interior with a contemporary French feel.

Entry is via its front terrace, overlooking the courtyard (furnished with a table, 8 chairs and BBQ), into a huge sitting room with high ceiling and a fabulous ancient fireplace with wood burner insert. The large dining table seating 12 is located at one end, with 2 big comfy sofas in the middle in front of the fire. Many a family evening can be had in this huge room, the children helping themselves to the dresser full of toys and books and if you fancy a night indoors snuggled up, you'll be pleased to hear you can choose between UK satellite television or a movie from the DVD library.

French windows on the opposite side to the front door look out over another patio and the huge garden out the back of the property, towards its medieval-designed organic vegetable patch, fields and woodlands. Recently constructed to take full advantage of the wonderful evening sunshine, it is a perfect place to sit and have an aperitif once the children are in bed.

The downstairs double bedroom, with an extremely comfortable king-size bed, is conveniently located just off the sitting room. A good-size room with en-suite bathroom, it's perfect for grandparents who might like some space and privacy or who may find the stairs difficult to negotiate. Should this room be used by a couple with a baby, it is flexible enough to be rearranged to accommodate a cot.

The kitchen is also accessed from the sitting room and is bright and fresh with fitted ‘shaker' style units and a double butler style sink; it's fully equipped with the usual mod cons including a dishwasher and microwave. No need to take all your dirty washing home with you as there is also a washing machine neatly tucked away in a cupboard under the stairs.

There is also a second door into the downstairs bedroom's ensuite from the kitchen - perfect for visits to the loo during the day.

A gated staircase leads from the kitchen to the two remaining bedrooms upstairs. As it is a renovated attic space, the ceilings upstairs (on the landing and in both bedrooms) have sloping ceilings and beautiful exposed beams.

The first bedroom on the left is the twin room, which has its own ensuite shower room. This is a wonderful children's room with space for a cot, too.

At the far end of the landing, but within close proximity to the children's room, is a huge master bedroom with vaulted ceiling, exposed beams, a king-size bed, an ensuite shower room and separate walk-in dressing room. However, if you have twins or triplets, the bedroom itself is perfectly big enough to accommodate 3 cots.

Most of the bedroom windows in both houses have shutters, and those that don't have black-out blinds, encouraging those well-deserved lie-ins.

Just like its sister gite, La Ferme du Manoir is centrally heated via an environmentally-friendly wood-burning boiler fed by the estate's own coppiced wood; all bathrooms also have heated towel rails.

Parent points:

The staircase is quite steep, so children should probably be supervised and parents carrying babies may need to take extra care.

There are a couple of lower beams upstairs, not a problem for children but parents should be warned of this, as a ‘head bang' risk.
