The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Axarquia region could be the equivalent of the lake district but with bonus of sunshine 320 days per year. The beautiful Lake Viñuela and unspoilt countryside with The Sierra Tejeda National Park and La Maroma (2066m) is dominant in the area. The area is popular with walkers, artists and alternative therapists because of the clean air, bright light and pure mountain water from Alcaucín. The cities of Granada, Cordóba, Málaga & Sevilla are all possible day trips with easy access to motorway networks. The area has become popular recently with northern europeans, relocating to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle and friendly atmosphere of the local people who still follow with their traditional fiestas.
Lake Vinuela / Alcaucin area
In the Alcaucin area although only 20mins from the beaches, it still maintains the traditional spanish rural lifestyle with lemon and olive farms but also has the four star Hotel Viñuela and modern sophisticated bars and restaurants with a cosmopolitain feel. For those feeling more energetic the summit of La Maroma is a good days walk with many other trails throughout the national park. Inland the breathtaking scenery is a must to visit with Alhama de Granada a 30min drive inland, that has a natural thermal spa.
There are many fiestas throughout the year including the peach harvest in Periana, raisins in Viñuela that make the Málaga sweet wine & chestnuts in Alcaucin to name but a few. The beautiful Lake Viñuela nearby has fishing, sailing and horse riding facilities. A ready made BBQ area within the wooded areas surrounding it.
As well as being a great place to get away from it all, the coast is only 20mins with good roads if you want to enjoy the beaches or golf courses. Making this location ideal for exploring both coastal and inland towns.
How to get there
45mins from Malaga International Airport. Autovia A7 east towards Malaga, Motril, Almeria exit Velez-Malaga km 272. Turn left towards Viñuela A356,continue until km35, turn right onto the A402 towards Alhama de Granada, Alcaucín and Periana, until km56, turn right at El Cruce crossroads next to Embutidos Axarquia. Continue towards Venta Baja for 2kms turn left into the Urbanizacion Zamora.

Every effort has been made to create a peaceful holiday environment so you can relax & enjoy life without the daily stresses. A welcome pack is provided with fruit, bread, tea, coffee, wine etc.
