Home description
Casa Sujana is in a tiny hamlet of villas set in an olive grove about 4km from the nearest village. It's at the end of a short private road and has uninterrupted views of a stunning mountain range, the Sierras de Tejeda. The views alone makes the trip worth while. This is a villa for those seeking relaxation, peace and stunning sunsets. If walking is your thing, just step out the front door and go in almost any direction!
The private pool is surrounded by its own terrace and also has unimpaired views of the mountains - swimming lazily on your back and looking up the hillside is an amazing experience. The villa is furnished to a very high standard with a solid wood and granite kitchen, lovely bedroom furniture, leather sofas and plenty of wooden garden furniture.
Cava and a good book - happens a lot in the garden!

The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol is an extremely varied part of Andalusia. There's loads to see and do, ranging from the obvious beach pursuits to visiting ancient towns such as Antequerra and Ronda, superb sites of natural interest such as Torcal Park with its amazing rock formations, and an endless supply of beautiful walks.
Just inland from the coast the region produces more olives than you could imagine the world eating, in some of the best tended and most productive olive groves in the world. The mountains are spectacular and contain an abundance of wildlife. We've seen eagles, ibex and wild boar while out walking and in spring the countryside is covered with wild flowers.
Lake Vinuela / Alcaucin area
Alcaucin, which is a delightful 4km walk from the villa, sits at the foot of the entrance to the Sierras de Tejeda natural park (see www.andalucia.com/environment/protect/tejeda.htm). It's a stunning place for an afternoon's drive and there are a couple of picnic spots along the way. Walks are plentiful and the flora and fauna in spring are amazing.
Nerja and its famous caves are 20km along the coast or can be reached across country through the typical andalucian villages of Canillos de Aceituno, Sedella and Salares. It's a lovely meandering route, and further than it looks on the map! The caves are really worth a visit, and Nerja is a pretty and refined coastal town (see www.andalucia.com/nerja/caves.htm)
There are good restaurants in Alcaucin and marvellous ones if you venture inland a little. The villa contains details of some favourites, but you might need to try out a little Spanish in some of them. The further inland you go the more Spanish it gets!
How to get there
The nearest airport is Malaga which is very well served by budget flights from most UK airports including Easyjet and Ryanair. The villa is just under an hour away by road with a choice routes - stunning or quick! You can also fly into Granada with Ryanair, and the drive from this airport to the villa is absolutely gorgeous and takes about an hour and 15 minutes - watch out for the bends! You will probably need a car as the villa is in a rural setting. Car hire is available at both airports and we've found that the best deals for fully insured, unlimited mileage are available from www.doyouspain.com. They provide a really easy service and there are no cancellation or alteration charges. Hertz rental through Ryanair is also cheap but there is an insurance excess. If you prefer not to drive we can arrange a taxi for you with a local firm who are very much cheaper than catching a cab at the airport - feel free to phone for details. Finally, there are frequent buses to Velez Malaga which is about 15km from the villa. You can easily get a taxi here which should cost less than 20 euros, or a further bus to Alcaucin which is 5km away from the villa - again, please ask for details.

Guestbook for Casa Sujana
- First of all -- the Family Cran had an idyllic time at Casa Sujana! We always made sure we were by the pool to watch the morning & evening rush hour comprising shepherd & sheep dog herding sheep up & then down the mountain! We could (and did) spend hours just gazing at the view: the lush, varied vegetation in the valley below us, the wild mountains, above & the olive trees all around. Our evening's entertainment was watching Gordon the gecko stalk bugs attracted to the floodlight on the villa's wall (one night he brought along a date: Gail the gecko). The villa represented excellent value for money - it has clearly been a labour of love, and a wonderful home away from home. Six of us had a lovely, relaxed time, & never felt crowded. And with that big pool, the kids never had time to get bored.
- A quick one really, just to say how much we enjoyed Casa Sujana!! What a great Villa. Everything you need, secluded spot, beautifully furnished and even sharp knives in the draw! (When you travel and stay in places as much as we do, it's amazing just how important sharp knives are!) Would you mind pencilling us in for July 26/27-August 5. Tecwyn and Susana - Germany
- We love the colours you've used in the house since our last visit. We'll be back next year just to see if things can get any better! (Susan and Graham from East Grinstead)
- In response to your request for suggestions, can we have a tray for carrying the cava outside more easily? The rest can't be improved upon! (Lynn, Victoria, Kate and partners from Huddersfield)
- We arrived late, went straight to bed and just couldn't believe the view when we opened the shutters in the morning. We're jealous! (Peter and Basia from Holmfirth)
