Lake Viñuela is one of Andalucia’s best kept secrets and is unspoilt by tourism. The Lake is a reservoir and is also used for sailing, wind-surfing and fishing. There are no motorised boats allowed thus ensuring undisturbed tranquility.
The nearest beach resort is the typically Spanish resort of Torre de Mar just over 20 mins away. A wide promenade runs alongside its sandy beaches to the marina at Caleta. There are many beaches to enjoy along the coastal walk with countless beach huts 'chiringuitos' serving paella and fresh fish lunches.
Nearby is a fabulous shopping complex, El Ingenio with a hypermarket where you can buy all your groceries and holiday treats ! Torre del Mar and Velez Malaga both have numerous shops, restaurants and tapas bars to explore and enjoy. Nearby is a large water park and a go-karting track. The busier resorts of Marbella and Fuengirola are just over an hour away.
All around the property are paths leading to glorious walks through unspoilt countryside. On the opposite side of the lake is the National Park which is widely used by walkers and ramblers and is renowned as being the best walking area in Spain. The white-washed mountain villages (pueblos) are well worth a visit and where you can discover the real Andalucía. Take time to look into the dates of the local “ferias” or festivals, in the surrounding villages as these are a perfect way to experience the local culture.
You may choose to explore inland to Granada with its fabulous architecture and gardens. Antequera, a busy market town of Roman origin with its historic bullring, a 13th century castle and a wealth of history is also worth a visit. Nerja on the coast is a lovely old town where you can take a horse-drawn taxi to the famous Balcon de Europa overlooking the sea. Nearby Maro with its spectacular caves and summer concerts is also not to be missed.
Please note that changeover day is a Saturday. If you would prefer to arrive on another day please contact us and we will try to accommodate your request.
You will be greeted at the villa upon your arrival when you will be shown around and given two sets of keys.

The Andalucia region
Known for the best climate in Europe, Axarquia has sub-tropical temperatures similar to southern California. Lapped by the Mediterranean waters of the Costa del Sol and sheltered by magnificent mountain ranges, Axarquia lies within the Malaga Province of Andalucia.
Axarquia is an Arab name meaning "The East". This area, to the East of Malaga City is much less developed than the West. The Axarquia retains all the charm of yesteryear thanks to its unspoilt havens and coves and beaches. While it is becoming better known, the area still offers an ideal location for those in search of a more tranquil setting. The Axarquia is one of the few areas to still offer unspoilt beaches that have managed to escape the all-consuming urban development that has invaded other parts of the Mediterranean coast.
Until a few years ago, Axarquia was one of Spain's forgotten areas. Major attractions are the spectacular unspoilt countryside and coastal villages. The hill and mountain scenery are ablaze with flowers and blossom from January onwards.
Shepherds lead their goats and sheep through hills and valleys, eagles soar in the sky and pretty, unspoiled white villages (pueblos) abound .
The Place By The Lake is situated on the very edge of Lake Vinuela with magnificent views across the lake and over to Mount Maroma. Just a 45 minute drive from Malaga airport brings you to the idyllic region of Axarquia - a peaceful, relaxing and beautiful area of rolling hills and stunning mountain scenery. The area is surrounded by the small whitewashed villages (pueblos) of Alcaucin (15mins drive), La Vinuela (10 mins), Los Romanes (7 Mins), Puente Don Manuel (10mins) and Periana (20mins), all with restaurants, bars and small shops. The capital of Axarquia is Velez-Malaga (20mins); The nearest beach is at Torre del Mar (25mins) Other places of interest include the coastal town of Nerja (35mins); the ever fashionable Marbella/Puerto Banus (75mins); the beautiful and historic city of Seville (120 mins); the wonderful city of Granada and the Alhambra Palace (90mins). The nearest supermarket is in La Vinuela (10 mins) and the nearest restaurants are a 7-10 min drive away.
Golf: There are two excellent 18 hole golf courses nearby, Bavaria Golf (15mins away) and Club Añorets (25 mins away). In addition there are over 50 golf courses throughout the Costa del Sol with full details available on request.
Ski: You may wish to go skiing in the Sierra Nevada in the winter season which is less than 2 hours drive away. The season is open from November to May depending on weather conditions.
