The Andalucia region
Come and visit the OTHER side of Spain. The region of Malaga is diverse, with mountains, sea and lakes. There are many walks in the National Park, Monte de Malaga, which is approximately 30 mins drive away. The whitewashed village of Comares (30km) is visable from the house, and is a lovely place to visit as it is mainly pedestrian. It is the highest village in Andalucia.
El Torcal, is a mountain range that has been erroded by the weather. It was once under sea level. It is about 45-60 minutes from the farmhouse and has been likened to the grand canyon - there is a visitor centre with lots of information, and on Saturday evenings in the Summer you can visit the telescope and see what is in the night skies.... a fantastic day out. Take a picnic - there are lots of places to stop on-route and on site, to take in the spectacular views.
The Caves at Nerja, (41KM) on the Eastern side, are also a good place to visit, and is well signposted from the Autovia. Ladies be warned - wear flat shoes!
Why not visit a Wolf Park, there is one near Antequera approximately 1 1/4 hr away, (64 KM). They live in a natural habitat and there are 4 different species you can see. They are not domesticated but are socialised, there is a tour you can go on with the owner round the various areas they live.
Malaga is approximately one hour away (49KM) but we would suggest catching the bus from Torre del Mar (24KM), as parking is bad in the City. There is a castle, port and a very good shopping centre, with plenty of places to stop for a drink and tapas.
The cities of Seville (225KM) 2 1/2 hours and Granada (106KM) 1 1/2 hour drive. Gibraltar is also a nice day out and is about 2 1/2 hours away.
From Torre del Mar you can get the bus into most of the local towns. There are many beaches in the area, with the best ones being in Torre del Mar and Nerja (Burriana).
If you want to know what the weather is like in the area please look at www.eltiempo.es/vinuela.
Tesorillo is ideally located for a quiet family get away from it all break, as well as bird watchers, walkers and bikers, with many tracks criss-crossing the area. Also it is lovely to relax after a hard day on the beach, in peace and quiet. As well as our own pool, we have a brand new village swimming pool, about 4 minute walk away.
Comares (30KM) is approximately 1 hour away, through the lovely countryside, can be seen from the house. This is the highest white village in Andalucia, and well worth a visit. The village itself is pedestrian, but the car park is free.
Marbella (112 KM) is about 1 1/2 hours drive away, and is a lovely place to 'people watch', tho be warned there are pickpockets there.
There are many fine restaurants/bars within a 15 minute drive, and one within a 5 minute walk. There is an excellent Indian Restaurant the other side of Los Romanes, (8 minute drive) which gets fantastic reviews. Between May and September there are lots of fiestas around the local villages (any excuse for a party!) and you may come across one during your stay. Definitely not to be missed! The Spanish have 26 Bank Holidays so they have the right idea we think!
You can fish at certain times of the year on Lake Vinuela but a license has to be obtained from the local town hall.
Velez Malaga, (17KM) is a working town, with a castle, and many churches to visit and is approximately 20 minutes away. There is also a great water park there open during the Summer. Wonderful fun for the kids!
Sea Life is another good day out, it is in Benalmadena, (82KM) about 1 1/4 hours away - we have some discount vouchers should you decide to visit there, please ask for one.

Wanted a relaxing holiday, lovely and quiet with a great seating area. The plunge pool is spot on for keeping cool. The advantage of this property is that it is 2 minutes walk from a few bars and a restaurant and tapas bars. In the past we have stopped in the middle of nowhere which is great but if you want to travel to visit places it takes ages. This property is 20 minutes to a bunch of places to visit. So a great compromise. Only issue for us is that we landed in a heatwave.... But not much we can do about that. Will come back again when it is cooler.
Thank you for your kind comments about the pool etc. We are glad you had a good time, in spite of the very high 116 degrees we had here for your visit! As we said come back in Spring or Autumn and you will be able to do so much more. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Regards, Carol and Gordon

"Relaxed, friendly professionally run"
We came to stay in Los Romanes for a friends wedding, Tesorillo really is as close to the village as stated, Carole and Gordon were very friendly and helpful , with lots of information of things to do in the area, but most of the time we probably wouldn't have known if they were there, it is a beautiful spot quiet and tranquil, the outdoor sunbathing and plunge pool area was lovely as was the annex which was also as spacious as it looks with two lovely bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, it really is a spectacularly beautiful area and I felt really lucky to have found such a great place to stay , well worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I'm in the area again
Thank you so much for your great review. We are really pleased when guests enjoy themselves and are very happy with their choice of accommodation, at a very competitive price for the area. That is our primary aim, to allow people to enjoy the more tranquil side of Spain, and also for guests not to feel they have been taken advantage of. We hope to see you all again soon.

"Relaxing break with beautiful views."
The property was clean and comfortable, with everything that we needed. Windows had mesh covers so could be left open without worrying about mosquitos (although there weren't many around while we were there). The owners, Carol and Gordon, live in the attached property and were very welcoming and helpful. They were able to answer any queries and suggest places to visit. The property is set in the mountains, with beautiful views. We wanted a relaxing holiday, but with places of interest within easy reach, and this property fitted the bill perfectly. There is a good restaurant within walking distance (El Charco, known locally as Miguels), plus a further bar and restaurant which we didn't try ourselves, and there are also several other restaurants within a few minutes drive. We enjoyed just driving through the local countryside and villages, getting a feel for the "real Spain", but also made several trips a bit further afield. The caves at Nerja are amazing and a good option for inclement weather. We also visited Granada and walked round the grounds of the Alhambra Palace (if you want to go into the buildings themselves you need to book well in advance). El Torcal is an area of limestone rock formations, and is well worth a visit. We took the easy option walking route, which took about 45 minutes and provided lots of photo opportunities for natural rock sculptures. Another highlight of the holiday was the picturesque white village of Comares, set right on the top of a mountain. The views from the cemetery are stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Los Romanes and would highly recommend this property.
Thank you for your kind review, we are so pleased you had such a relaxing time. We look forward to seeing you soon Regards Carol and Gordon

"another great stay!"
All just as nice as last year, but a shame that the pool was out of action, hopefully it will be fixed for next year. Still a beautiful quiet location, we are looking forward to returning.
Many thanks for your review, and we apologise again for the pool being out of action, but there was nothing we could do until we had a new part from the UK. We do hope it didnt spoil your time here with us too much, and that we will be seeing you both again soon. We promise the pool will be ready for you to use whenever you come back. Regards C and G

What a lovely location, nice and quiet but only a short 15 minute drive to some fabulous beaches and towns. Nerja in particular is a lovely town. The apartment was very clean and tidy with everything we needed, the owners were very helpful and had lots of local knowledge of things going on like markets which was good to know! There was a lovely swimming pool which was very clean and had sun loungers aswell. About a 45 minute drive from the airport which was very straight forward and sign posted well. All in all a beautiful area and we will be going back!
Dear R and family, thank you so much for you fantastic review, which we hope will help others looking at our property, and perhaps thinking it is too far away from the coast! upside is the peace and quiet at the end of a busy day, especially with children, getting them chilled etc and ready for bed!. Glad you had a wonderful time here, in the village as well as the surrounding area, and we both look forward to welcoming you all back here soon.

"A relaxing get-away"
We loved it at Tesorillo! It was our second holiday there and we would highly recommend it to others whether you have children or not. The views are stunning and the house/gardens are just perfect. The plunge pool is great and there are loungers for sun bathing and reading. We spent many lazy days on these loungers! The house is lovely and has everything you need plus there's a patio with table and chairs for evening meals. The village is a short walk away and has a pub and two small shops and the most amazing views. Our children love it there too - especially our son who likes the wi-fi and the plunge pool. All of our children loved the plunge pool and the relaxing environment. Carol and Gordon are wonderful as well and are very helpful and friendly. It really is the perfect relaxing Spanish mountain get-away.
Thank you for such a great recommendation. We really appreciate it. we enjoyed seeing you and the children again, they are growing up fast. Hopefully see you in 2015.

"Quiet, relaxing and Spanish"
On arrival the lemon tree on the small patio outside of the apartment was full of fruit. We were never without fresh lemon drinks throughout our stay. The sound of goat bells could be heard almost every night and the olive grove was only a dozen steps across the track. Hoopoe, Bee eaters, Sardinian warbler and Cuckoo were seen daily. In 30 degree heat the apartment stayed nice and cool. A well equipped and clean accommodation. An ideal location for exploring the fantastic Mountains of Malaga and Alfranate areas and beyond and only 20 mins to the Sea. Our hosts Carol and Gordon were very helpful and accommodating.

"A perfect setting with lemon tree!!"
It was our first visit to the Vinuela area, we enjoyed every minute. Our stay at Tesorillo was everything we hoped for and more. The apartment is spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The kitchen is fully equiped with everything you need. The guest terrace is private, equiped with table & chairs and the most beautiful lemon tree. Carol and Gordon are perfect hosts, very welcoming, friendly and a wealth of information and advice. The apartment is well situated and convenient for the village of Los Romanos, whose location and surrounding area is stunning, with the lake, mountains and pretty villages. We found it extremely relaxing, quiet and a perfect place to unwind. We hope to return in the near future. Thank you to Carol and Gordon for your hospitality and kindness, we look forward to seeing you again soon. H&T
So pleased you enjoyed your first trip to mainland Spain - and that the apartment was up to scratch - we hope you see you both again very soon. G and C

"Sun and relaxation"
We had a great time at Tesorillo, Carol and Gordon were friendly and helpful and the house exactly met our needs. We are not beach fans but we found lots to do in the area on the days that we went out. On the days we stayed at home we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the pool and relaxed reading a book under the lemon tree. Great location for a quiet relaxing holiday.
It was lovely to meet you all, and so happy you enjoyed your holiday. We hope to see you again in 2014. Regards Carol and Gordon

"wonderfully scenic and relaxing"
We found the property very easily thanks to the clear instructions emailed to us. We knew it was going to be a great location but it still took our breath away when we arrived! The apartment was spotlessly clean and we settled in very quickly. Good selection of maps and a useful folder full of local information. The village has a number of small shops that sell everything you'll need and restaurants and bars are there for you if you can drag yourself away from the sun soaked garden. The apartment and garden are really quiet and the ideal spot if you are looking for an antidote to a busy, bustling lifestyle back home.
Glad you all had a great time, and found the apartment so well equipped. So pleased to meet you, and hope to see you again soon - maybe for a little longer next time? - and maybe a longer ride out with S and G?? Sun is still out!! You know where we are. C and G
