About the home

Casa 23 boasts magnificent uninterrupted views across the valley of Lake Vinuela to Mount Maroma. It is stepped into the hillside on the outskirts of the typical Spanish village of Los Romanes. Casa 23 is a whitewashed villa with private pool with shallow steps into the pool. The many large terraces and garden offer choice and space! Lake Vinuela offers water sports, sailing, kayaking and fishing. There are many splendid walks around the lake and in spring the wild flowers are bountiful.

The villa is well equipped with modern appliances. It is ideal for holiday makers who want to taste the 'real' Spain. Situated in the Axarquia region of Andalucia the villa offers a good base to explore. Within a short drive of the beach resorts of Nerja and Torre del Mar, a little longer drive about 1hours 30mins and you can reach Granada with the famous Alhambra palace.

NEW 2013 we now offer you the chance to 'travel light' we provide POOL and BATH TOWELS plus all bath essentials, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Avoid the charges for checking in your luggage just bring hand luggage.

The spacious living /dining room opens via patio doors to the spacious terrace with magnificent views across the lake and beyond to Mount Maroma. For the cooler months there is a logburning fire with some logs provided.

All bedrooms have ceiling fans. There are a number of free standing fans for the hotter months.

The master bedroom opens to a terrace via patio doors again with the same outstanding views.

The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. I have tried to provide a home from home with equipment that I would want from liquidiser to garlic crusher I think you will find everything to make cooking a joy!

There are many terraces at Casa 23 offering variety and space.

All terraces have magnificent views overlooking Lake Vinuela and Mount Maroma.

The main terrace has a partially shaded area with integral BBQ.

There are sun loungers and outside furniture.

The villa is situated off the main road on a small cul de sac with ample off the road parking.

The private 8 x 4 swimming pool is accessed from the bedroom terrace down a gated flight of steps. It is a graduated pool 1 metre at the shallow end to appx 2metres at the deep end.

Our English speaking representatives can meet you at the villa if so desired but will carry an extra cost depending on your time of arrival. They are also on hand as an emergency contact.

We can offer Wi fi Internet access arranged locally with our representative at an extra cost of 15euros per week.


The pool is available all year round but is unheated.

The Andalucia / Malaga Province region

Costa del Sol is mainly known for the resorts on the coasts, with their English bars and nightlife. However, the Costa del Sol / Andalucia has much more to offer www.andalucia.com. The true Spain lies a few miles inland away from the hustle and bustle. In Axarquia, in particular, the culture of Spain is still alive and many traditional fiestas take place in the many white washed villages that abound in this area.

A trip to Malaga city with the new art museums such as Picasso museum www.museopicassomalaga.org, the Thyssen Museum and Revello de Toro should not be missed for any art lover (45min drive on the autovia or take the bus from Torre del Mar along the coast road). Malaga has a new 'port zone' with good shopping arcades and bars where one can sit and watch the sun go down with the backdrop of the city.

The city of Granada is only a 2hour drive with the famous Alhambra Palace www.alhambradegranada.org and of course the Sierra Nevadas are only a short drive away too.

If beaches are your need then the Spanish town of Torre del Mar offers this, together with a Water Park, Shopping Mall with Bowling Alley and Cinema that show films in English. A 20 min drive takes you to Nerja with its white sandy beaches and the famous 'Caves of Nerja'. Concerts are sometimes held in the actual caves! www.nerja.com

Two golf courses, Baviera www.bavieragolf.com and Anoreta www.anoretagolf.es are within a short drive 15mins and 20mins away respectively.

The Lake Vinuela / Los Romanes area

Los Romanes is a typical Spanish village and is famous for its olives and the local olive press provides some of the best olive oil in the region.

The local goat herder often 'walks' his goats down the hillside and it is always a fantastic sight, the age old traditions are still alive and well.

The village has a small shop supplying your basic needs, a bar and a restaurant which is a 3min walk from the villa. Three further restaurants are within a 5min drive; 2 of which are situated on the lakeside. There are further shops about a 5mins drive in the village of Puente don Manuel. However the hypermarket is in Torre del Mar about 15mins drive.

Lake Vinuela is a reservoir providing drinking water to the Malaga area. The lake provides a variety of activities; sailing, canoeing, fishing together with fine walks and off the road cycling. Power craft are not allowed on the lake therefore creating a tranquil place. Sailing dinghies and canoes can be hired from the sailing club just past The Vinuela Hotel 5min drive.

The famous whitewashed villages of the area provide fantastic day trips; Comares, perched precariously on the top of a mountain, is a must see experience, and provides the best sunset pictures offering a 360degree perspective of the area.

There are many 'routes' in this region; The route of the Grape, The route of the Olive The route of the Raisin - all available within a short drive of the villa. Many local fiestas take place during the year and one would be unfortunate to miss one in any of the villages. Sample the local delights and take home the true memories of Spain.

Andalucia is not just for summer...during the cooler months of October to March why not enjoy the sunny days of winter averaging 17degrees centigrade. The cities of Granada, Cordoba and Seville, are all within a couple of hours drive from the villa. Malaga is of course a city that is often missed on the tourist map and is well worth a visit. only a 40min drive.
There is still an enormous wealth of attractions to enjoy out of season when there is less traffic and more importantly its CHEAPER!

Fly to Malaga airport. - Casa 23 is located approximately 50mins from airport (46miles / 70km).

Malaga airport is regularly served by many budget airlines. EasyJet, Ryanair, Monarch etc from many local airports.

Car Hire is essential.

The drive to the villa is on good roads the main autovia from Malaga to Nerja, then a short drive on good roads to the village of Los Romanes which is approximately 15mins from the exit off the autovia.

“An Artists Paradise -” I loved the peaceful setting, the stunning views which as an artist I appreciated and never tired of sketching. I was great being away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist spots. Although it is within easy access of the coast, Malaga city and Granada for a day trip out. The owner has thought of everything. The pool was delightful and the many terraces give you choice of space. Response: Thank you for your review. “Fantastic villa with breathtaking views” What can I say!! We all enjoyed our visit to the villa it was everything that was advertised and more. We certainly were sad to say goodbye at the end of the twelve days that we spent there. The views are stunning and you never get tired of staring at it. The villa was well maintained and clean and had all the comforts of home. The weather was fantastic for the duration of our stay and it was lovely to jump in the pool when it got too hot, plus you can still see the lovely view. I would highly recommend the restaurant which is situated about a 2 minutes walk away from the villa. We visited it three times and thoroughly enjoyed every meal. I would thoroughly recommend the resort of Nerja too, we spent a day there sightseeing and finished off by visiting the caves which were beautiful and tranquil. “Views, peace and tranquility that would win an Olympic Gold” We've just had 10 wonderful days at Sue's wonderful villa. The main features that make this a 5 star villa are: 1. The advanced help,advice and support that you receive from the villa owner - Sue gives you such special care and attention in advance so that you can get your holiday off to the best possible start. One special example of this was the help that Sue gave me to find out from her local contacts and friends how my son Rory and I could climb Spain's highest peak, Mulhacen, which is in the Sierra Nevada. Then there was also a wonderful welcome pack awaiting us on arrival including a chilled bottle of Cava and really practical information and guidance on the villa's facilities and local area. 2. The stunning views from the balcony - At any time of day or night the views were wonderful, but there was nothing better for me than stepping out on to the balcony with my breakfast and the only sounds I could hear were cockeral's crowing and crickets chirping. 3. A great location to see the many different sides of the Costa Del Sol - It is a wonderful place to relax in, but also thanks to its proximity to Andalucia's fantastic road network it's also a great place to get to many other beautiful spots. During our 10 days our high spots included the laidback, relaxed, cosmopolitan resort of Nerja (35 mins drive), Granada (1hr 35 mins), Ronda (1 hr 40 mins via Antequera), Mijas (55 mins) and the beautiful mountain village of Capiliera in the Sierra Nevada via Las Alpujarras (2 hours). And yet we still enjoyed some home comforts, eating a takeaway curry from a local restaurant while watching the Olympics opening ceremony in the villa. “What a view and what a relaxing place to stay.” The property has everything you need for an easy and relaxing stay. It's location is excellent with great views over the lake and valley and is easy to get to with a relatively short drive from Malaga airport. The local restaurant, just a few hundred yards up the road does good food and there are a couple of small stores in Los Romanes for basic provisions and a large supermarket a short drive away. It's a good central location for visiting towns and cities nearby eg Granada, Malaga, Antequera, Nerja etc. We're looking forward to our next visit! Response: Many thanks for reviewing Casa 23.

“Absolutely Fantastic!” Casa 23 is a beautiful villa with excellent facilities. We have stayed there twice now which is something we don't normally do but it is so worth it. The views from the terraces are just stunning, morning and evening when you see the villages light up as night falls. The pool is lovely and spotlessly clean and the villa has everything you need for a couple, group of friends or a family. If you want to stay in first class accomodation in a stunning part of Spain, this is the place for you. Highly recommended!!!! Response: Thanks again for your review. “Beautiful setting - great views and great villa” We have just returned from this lovely villa where we had a very peaceful week with fantastic weather. The villa was very well equipped and had some useful information about where to eat, shop etc. The English neighbours were very helpful and friendly. We ate in MIguels - walking distance from the villa and El Camping - a short drive away - both of which served good food at reasonable prices. Had intended to go to the water park in Torre del Mar but unfortunately it doesn't open till later in the month. Enjoyed a vist to the Cueva del Nerja and a variety of markets at Velez Malaga, Nerja and Torre del Mar. A lovely part of Spain - the temperature ranged between 30 and 40 degrees but there was a welcome breeze so it wasn't too stifling. We would definitely stay at Casa 23 again! Only down side was the beds were a little small length-wsie for my husband who is 6ft 6in! Response: Thank you for you're review...sorry about the beds. “Superb Villa, with stunning views” Have just returned from a wonderful 10 days stay in Casa 23. The villa was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. Directions were spot on and the owner was on hand via email/phone to answer any queries etc. Also, the neighbours were very helpful with useful recommendations. Pictures do not do the view justice, it is truly breathtaking.. we are already missing it. Los Romanes is a very peaceful village, yet close enough to the coast/shops etc should the need take you. The kids loved the pool, which was also kept very clean. Cannot recommend this villa highly enough, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely be booking again, and have fallen in love with the area. Oh.. and if the lovely Spanish lady knocks on the door selling her local produce do try the salted almonds.... yummy (thanks for that recommendation Sue) Response: Many thanks for your swift review. “Fantastic villa with amazing views” Not really sure where to start! The villa is fantastic, very comfortable and clean with excellent facilities. There was just the 2 of us but this is also ideal for a family or friends. The view from the terrace is amazing both in the day and also at night with the villages all twinkling in the distance once the sun goes down. Miguels is a 2 minute walk and serves the most fanastic tapas at 1 euro per ration. The wine and beer is also very reasonable, around 1 euro per glass! The restaurant is very popular with both locals and holiday makers and people come from all over to sample the menu. We know this part of Spain very well and never stay in the same place twice but we have booked for next year already. Says it all really. Highly recommended. “Stunning views from a perfectly placed, well equiped property” The property was well equipped; a real home from home. It was in a perfect position for access to the coast and mountains. The view was incredible. We never tired of staring at the lake and mountains. The neighbours were very friendly. We are regulars to this area because of the outstanding beauty. “What a view.....” The location feels very private set in a small, quiet village and the villa itself is cool and airy inside with large rooms and a well equipped kitchen. It was a great setting for a holiday with the girls but would be equally suitable for a self-catering holiday with family or for a couple. The real bonus us that when you walk out onto the patio and see that view, be it morning, noon or night, you are never disappointed. Thoroughly recommended. Response: Thanks for the review!!

“A wonderful, relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings!” The villa looks out over the most spectacular view of the lake and mountains - we never tired of this! We went as a couple with our grown up children, and everyone had a wonderful time.The owner had thought of everything we might need - with an amazing attention to detail and generous welcome pack. The location encouraged us to be very lazy during the day, whilst giving lots of opportunity to eat out in nearby restaurants in the evening. A trip to Al Hambra, Grenada, was very worthwhile, including a drive through the beautiful national park to get there. Spain at its best - we would certainly go again!
