The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Turkey's Aegean coast, also known as the Turkish Riviera, is beautiful, historic and agriculturally rich. The combination of a favourable climate, warm sea waters and more that a thousand miles of coastline not to mention the most spectacular of the classical sites and treasures including the 3,000-year-old ruins of Troy, made famous by the poet Homer; the ruins of the fabled city of Pergamum, on its windswept hilltop; and the magnificent temples, colonnaded streets, and the theatre in Ephesus make this a wonderful holiday destination.
In this region are also the less-visited, though still impressive, ruins of the ancient cities of Didyma, Miletus, and Hierapolis.
Despite this rich history, the region now has a vibrant, cosmopolitan vibe, with Bodrum Town at its centre. From here Gulets and water taxis can help you explore the surrounding sea and various Greek islands nearby, including Kos. The town itself buzzes with activity, with small narrow streets filled with stalls, shops and cafes, harbour and seaside restaurants selling the freshest seafood and a marina with yachts to rival any in St Tropez. Outside of Bodrum there are many resort towns like Gumbet or Turgetreis with nightclubs and Bar Streets providing entertainment well into the morning hours.
With lots to explore, guaranteed sunshine and certainly something for everyone, The Turkish Riviera is well worth a visit.
Flamingo Country Club is a private, gated resort with 24 hr security and is one of this regions best holiday spots, with first class accommodation, 20 pools to choose from, a beach club (at Royal Heights), clubhouse, Spa and turkish bath, golf, sports, and a whole range of leisure amenities, you also have access to another three stunning resorts all within a short walking distance or drive.
Flamingo Country Club is located on the beautiful Tuzla headland with stunning views of the Aegean Sea on one side and Tuzla Lake, world class Vita Park Golf resort and mountains on the other. Lake Tuzla is a protected nature reserve due to the annual visit of thousands of migrating flamingos, pelicans and other wildbird species.
Within walking distance of the Club, guests can avail of the facilities of 3 other sister resorts (Turquoise, Lakeside Garden and Royal Heights), all have pools, restaurants and various leisure facilities. Other Restaurants/Bars outside of the resorts are Ocean View, Sunset Cafe, Hassans and My Beach - all with a sea view, ideal for watching the sunset with a drink or delicious meal. There are also various small beaches nearby with facilities open to tourists, not forgetting of course your very own beach club at Royal Heights which can be accessed my monorail. All serve food and drinks during the day and some even into the late evening.
Flamingo Country Club is just 15 minutes from Bodrum-Milas International Airport - for groups of four or less just pickup a taxi outside the airport arrivals hall, the journey costs around £25 depending on the exchange rate. For larger groups, or if you prefer to have a pre-defined pick-up arranged, we can arrange a transfer to and from the airport through our approved agents. Which ever you choose, the taxi / bus will take you straight to your accommodation. So no long transfers on overloaded coaches with multiple drop offs, you can be assured that once you have cleared the airport you are very close to starting your wonderful holiday in Turkey.
If you want explore the surrounding areas, car hire readily available. There are many low cost car hire companies with rates from as low as £20 per day who will deliver your vehicle directly to the property.
Alternatively, the local Dolmus (Turkish buses) are common and cheap, available outside the resort and run late into the night in high season.
Bodrum is just 30 minutes drive away on a stunningly beautiful coast road and is a major centre for tourism as well as a bustling cosmopolitan town steeped in history.
Set around a beautiful harbour with an imposing Castle to explore, you can take a hydrofoil to the Greek island of Kos which is visible from the quayside. The harbour in Bodrum is home to beautiful Turkish boats called gulets, and many offer tours around the beautiful coast. Quayside restauants selling fresh seafood and refreshing Efes beer are plentiful.
The narrow winding streets leading from the Harbour are a haven of shops and stalls selling everything from spices and Turkish delight, handmade leather goods and many dazzling mosaic lamp/candle shades as well as top brand name clothing and shoes. The stall holders expect you to haggle and a bargain can always be had.
For the more sporty guest, the Bodrum Peninsula offers many opportunities including a round of golf at nearby Vita Park, a World class, PGA approved club which has 2, 18 hole par 71 Courses. Its location, by the side of Lake Tuzla, is 10 Minutes drive from this accomodation.
Watersports enthusiasts can enjoy scuba diving/snorkelling in the warm waters of the Aegean with unspoilt reefs to explore, There are a number of PADI centres in this area. Windsurfers should head for Bitez beach near Bodrum and banana boats and jet skiing are available at Gumbet .
Bodrum Dedeman Aquapark is close to Bodrum and has 23 slides, a 350 meter river with artificial waves, pools and restaurants. An enthralling day can be spent there riding the wild river, plunging into the surf of the wave pool or relaxing in the jacuzzi.
White water rafting and jeep safaries are also popular in this area, with many local companies offering these and many other excursions.
A day trip to Ephesus is a must. Ephesus contains the largest collection of Roman ruins in the eastern Mediterranean. The ruins that are visible give some idea of the city's original splendor, making them a favourite international and local tourist attraction.
Close to Ephesus, and usually included in any excursion there is the House of the Virgin Mary, belived to be where Mary spent her last days and now rests. As well as a place of Christian pilgrimage, it is visited my many Muslims who believe Mary is the mother of a prophet.
Pamukkale or "cotton castle" in English is another worthy excursion. It is a natural outdoor Spa with 17 hot water springs with temperatures ranging from 35 °C (95 °F) to 100 °C (212 °F) forming terraced pools of health boosting mineral water which can be used for bathing. Pamukkale was made a World Heritage Site in 1988 and is a popular tourist attraction.
A trip to Dalyan can excite history lovers and conservationists alike. a boat trip on the Cayi river reveals the weathered facades of Lycian tombs (circa 400BC) and the ruins of the ancient trading city of Kaunos. Nearby Iztuzu Beach is the protected breeding ground of the Loggerhead Turtle, an endangered species who have existed for 45 million years.
Other details, including prices, of these and other excurions are available in the property pack at the accomodation.
