The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Tuzla Lake and its extensive wetlands lie at the end of a deep inlet from the Gulf of Güllük and Mandalya Bay. The site is unique as it is where the Lake unites with the sea. Embraced by rolling mountains covered with a rich combination of wild shrubs, Olive groves, Pine and Tamarisk trees, this is perhaps one of the most beautiful locations in Turkey.
Lake Tuzla is set within green slopes and has the wonderful salt lake on one side. At certain times the lake is awash with coloured Flamingos and Pelicans as well as many other rare birds. Butterflies also breed here. For nature lovers and bird watchers alike, Tuzla is paradise.
The beautiful Aegean sea lies on the other side. The Vita Park Golf Resort is located directly across the lake offering pay for play.
Bogaziçi Village. The fishing village of Bogaziçi nestles on the shores of Mandalya Bay. Today, a few fish restaurants fringe the seafront offering the days fresh catch and other Aegean specialities. Original old stone houses line the road and testify to Turkey's traditional village life.
Turkey's Aegean shores are among the loveliest landscapes in the country. The magnificent coastline is lapped by the clear waters of the Aegean Sea.
The holiday season lasts from early spring until late autumn when the temperature range is from 20 to mid 30 degrees, summer being the most popular time. The mild winter make it an ideal place for hikers and those wishing to visit the ancient sites away from the heat of the summer.
Only 5km away, the new Vita Park Golf Project was launched in 2008. The Vita Park Golf project has received huge media interest and promises to be one of the top golf locations in the world. The project has one 18-hole and two 8-hole Golf courses in this privileged place overlooking the spectacular lake and mountains.
A 25 minute drive finds Bodrum with a beautiful marina which is home to the wonderful Bodrum Castle, designer shopping, craft fairs and traditional shopping areas. Turkey is famous for great value, leather goods and hand made rugs etc. Many boat trips run from the Marina including trips to the nearby Greek island of Kos. With everything from quaint fish restaurants to the Mazarati Yacht Club and floating night clubs.plus the biggest open air night club in Europe, Halikanas, there is something for everyone in Bodrum.
Specialities are fresh seafood and a must is to visit the excellent local market, selling local foods and clothing, including leather goods.
Getting around the Bodrum peninsula is no problem. On-site car hire is available and there are low cost taxis and Dolmus (which run from May to October) to get you to and from all towns and places of interest. From Milas-Bodrum Airport you can fly to several Turkish cities including Istanbul. If you fancy a day trip or longer to Kos or Rhodes, you can purchase tickets all year round from the ferry terminal in Bodrum harbour.
The area is steeped in history, Bodrum harbour being dominated by a 15th century castle built by returning crusaders.
One of the seven wonders of the ancient world (Mausoleum of Mausolus) was located in Bodrum and parts of the ruins can still be seen. The museum of underwater archaeology is also located in Bodrum.
Bodrum is also a centre for yachting and the harbour can be found full of large Gulluk yachts, many of which offer charters and day trips. A ferry to nearby Kos (Greece) is available from just €18.
Dotted with idyllic fishing harbors, popular holiday villages and the remains of ancient civilizations attesting to the inheritance of more than 5,000 years of history, culture and mythology, this region offers a holiday with something for everyone - nature lovers, sun worshipers, photographers, sports enthusiasts, sailors and archaeologists.
