Lake Trasimeno / Tavernelle di Panicale area
The biggest lake on the Italian peninsula, Lake Trasimeno is an area of outstanding natural beauty that has remained largely unspoilt. The landscape is made up of low-lying hills, lush with vineyards and olive trees.
The lake has three islands: Maggiore, Minore and Polvese, and charming villages are scattered along the shoreline. It is a paradise for nature lovers, watersports and anglers, with a diverse supply of fish which can be sampled in the local restaurants.
Visits to the historical towns of Castiglione del Lago, Passignano, Panicale and Assisi are recommended and all are within an hour's drive.
