The Umbria region
Umbria is known as 'the green heart of Italy". The beautiful landscape is a combination of rolling green hills, forrests, rivers and lakes. The region has all the charm of nabouring Toscany, but is less densily populated and not yet spoiled by mass tourism. Its country side boasts beautful scenery and its towns and cities contain a wealth of culture, art and history. Perugia, Assisi, Todi, Foligno en Montefalco are just a few of the pearls of Umbria. There are also plenty of musea to visit, from ancient artefacts in the museums of Perugia, to modern art in Citta di Castello, or from the wine museum in Torgiano to the Umbrian ceramics museum in Deruta.
The region is famous for its cheeses and sausages, but above all for its priceless truffles, which you can find in many of the Umbrian disches. Umbria's climate is very favourable for the production of excellent wines, as evidenced by the famous Orvieto white wines and the Torgiano and Montefalco red wines.
It is not for nothing that Umbria is getting an increasing level of attention and visitors, also helped by world famous events like the Perugia Jazz Festival in July. But the Italians and some of the regular foreign visitors prefer for Umbria to remain a bit undiscovered, so they can get to keep the authentic Italian country life to themselves.
Lake Trasimeno area
Lake Trasimeno and its surroundings offers you beaches and lovely hilltop towns to stroll through. With beautiful places like Castiglion del Lago or Passignano you can go shopping, have a cappucino on the many piazza's or head for a meal in one of the wonderful restaurants. In the lake there are two beautiful islands you can visit by ferry. Or you can go swimming in the lake, sailing or fishing. There is plenty to do and see around Lake Trasimeno. But maybe the beauty of the Sento surroundings will keep you just at the poolside!

* Casale 'Sento' is situated about 16 km south of Lago Trasimeno, 30 km west from Perugia and 54 km East from wine city Montepulciano in Tuscany. Within a range of about 100 km a near 20% of the world's cultural heritage is at hand with Florence, Perugia, Siena, Arezzo, Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio, Spoleto, Chiusi, Cortona, Tarquinia all within an easy drive.
