Raffertys Resort is located at the southern end of Lake Macquarie. The lake itself is the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia, over four times the size of Sydney Harbour. The lake is 24 km long and has 174 km of foreshore, with it's beautiful bays and beaches.

Day trips from the resort.
The regions adjacent Lake Macquarie offer some excellent day trips and include.
Newcastle NSW.
The city of Newcastle is approx 30 to 35min drive North of the resort along the Pacific Highway.

Newcastle is Australia’s 6th largest city and was recently voted by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit.
We recommend the Honeysuckle precinct on Wharf Road Newcastle where you can wine dine or take coffee and watch the working harbour in action. Newcastle is the largest coal export harbour in the Southern hemisphere and you are likely to see large ships coming and going with the assistance of tug boats.
If you drive east on Wharf Road the road will take you to Nobbys Headland and Nobbys Beach. Follow the road to the south and hug the coast for a scenic drive past the Boggy Hole, Newcastle Beach, King Edward Park, Bar Beach and Merewether Beach. This drive will head you back in the direction of Raffertys.
Port Stephens
A further 30 to 40 min drive from Newcastle is the beautiful Bay area of Port Stephens.

Port Stephens is also rightly regarded as the dolphin capital of Australia. With 140 bottlenose dolphins calling Port Stephens home, it’s no wonder they’re sighted so often. From late May to early November, the waters off Port Stephens are host to the magnificent acrobatic displays of migrating humpback whales, some weighing up to 48 tonnes.
We recommend the whale-watching and dolphin cruises departing from Nelson Bay. There are several operators that provide a ringside seat cruising out to the heads and back.
The Hunter Valley
The world famous wine region of the Hunter Valley is a comfortable 50 to 60 min drive from Rafferts Resort so can be easily visited as a day trip or alternately if you have sampled to many of the fine wines there is a large variety of accommodation available.
The Hunter is known for its great wines, but is quickly developing its name as a gourmet paradise. Al Fresco Cafe’s and fine dining restaurants dot the valley. A number of the wineries themselves have award winning restaurants offering delicious fare and fine dining. A book title Hunter Valley Wine Country is usually available in the house or at the resort reception or alternately visit www.winecountry.com.au.
There are cellar doors at all the notable wineries for sampling some great wines, including in particular, the Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay varietals. Visit one or a number of the wineries to discuss, learn more and see how these wines are made
