About the home

Lovely old stone house with four bedrooms and exclusive use of a fully enclosed heated swimming pool. The house has a table tennis table, large stone barbecue and off street parking for 2/3 cars. Our pretty village has a friendly bar which serves food, a short stroll away. . We are only a 15 minute drive to the safe, sandy beaches at La Faute Sur Mer and 10 minutes to the the cathedral town of Lucon with its numerous shops and restaurants. The area is a haven for cyclists with miles of cycle tracks and bike hire is widely available. There is lots to do in the area with go-karting , Indian Forest adventure trails, boating on the Marais Poitevin, days out in Les Sables D'Olonnes and La Rochelle , the Puy du Fou theme park , the Forest of Mervent , the list is endless!

Facilities

Light and spacious open plan living room with ample seating, including sofa bed and satellite TV. There is a good selection of books, games and DVDs for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, microwave etc. There are four bedrooms, all newly decorated, two twin bedded rooms and two doubles all with ceiling fans and ample storage space. There is a family bathroom with a bath, shower and w.c., another separate w.c. and a walk-in shower/wet room.

It is a toddler friendly house as we provide a travel cot, high-chair, changing mat, steam steriliser and potty and there are no stairs.

Further details outdoors:
The back garden is pretty and secluded with a large stone barbecue and large table and chairs. At night, the garden is lit up by the lights in the trees so you can enjoy eating outside.

The heated 10m x 4m pool is fully enclosed with a safety fence and there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols to relax round the pool. The front of the house is grassed where the children can round around and play safely and use the swingall or play table tennis or boules and the parents can sit on the terrace enjoying a glass of wine under the shade of the parasol.

There is secure off street parking for 2/3 cars

Please note that duvets and pillows are provided but please bring your own sheets and towels. Alternatively, you can hire them from our key holder.

The house is supplied with dishwasher liquid, tea towels, cleaning materials, and basics such as salt, pepper, cooking oil and foil.

There is an iron and a hairdryer provided for your use.

Conditions

Short breaks of 3 or 4 nights are acceptable outside the peak season.

Refundable breakages/cleaning deposit of £100 required, payable with the balance which will be returned to you within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection)

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region

The Vendee is the ideal place to come for a beach holiday - it is the second sunniest region in France and has endless miles of safe, sandy beaches which are very child friendly. The chic resort of Le Sables D'Olonne is only a 3/4 drive away as is La Rochelle. But there is lots more beside the wonderful beaches, for one, it is a great place if you are a keen cyclist with hundreds of kms of bike trails exclusively for cyclists -. The area also boasts some of the finest golf courses in Europe all within an easy drive of our house. Another popular and fun day out is taking a boat down the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice).

The Lairoux area

Lairoux is a peaceful little village set in the beautiful Vendee countryside and has the added bonus of its own bar within an easy stroll of the house. The unspoilt sandy beaches of La Faute sur Mer are about a 10/15 minute drive away and the cathedral town of Lucon is less than 10 minutes which has a good variety of restaurants and interesting shops. The popular lively resort of La Tranche sur Mer with its child friendly beach and watersports available is only a short drive away and there are lots of activities for children locally including the Indian Forest Adventure Park and Go Karting in nearby La Jonchere. The mediaeval theme park Puy du Fou is approximately 3/4 hour drive away and comes very highly recommended.

Easily accessible from ferry ports at St Malo, Le Havre and Caen. Budget airline Ryanir flies from Stantstead to La Rochelle which is only a 45 minute drive away. You can also fly to Poitiers with Ryanair which is approximately 1.5 hours drive from the house.

“Wonderful family friendly house with swimming pool” The house had everything we needed for 3 kids under ten and two adults. In fact we did not even use all the rooms available. The house is incredibly well stocked with English books, DVD's for tired kids in the evenings, ping pong, rackets, garden games, etc. There was a DVD and even a Playstation. The house is all on one level with plenty of space and the bedrooms opening onto the patio and swimming pool to the front (with safety fencing of course - this is France!). We stayed for a week in July 2011 and the weather was not great. We still managed to have a great time and even used in the pool in the rain! This house would be bliss in good weather. Lairoux itself is a tiny hamlet with one local pub that does not open every day. The house has neighbours - although the trees and garden on 3 sides gives lots of privacy. You will need a car to make short trips to the supermarket and boulangerie to get your daily baguette. Logistics are easy - we picked up the keys from a local English couple who were incredible helpful and they came to us to check out on the last day.
