The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn-et-Garonne region
The midi-Pyrenees in the south of France is blessed with beautiful and dramatic landscapes and river gorges. The region has stunning medieval towns, like Albi, Cordes, Carcassonne, St Antonin. All are resplendent with breathtaking architecture,
The beautiful historic city of Toulouse, known as the Pink City because of its red brick buildings, is the cultural capital of the area and is just 1h 15 by train from Laguepie. With its charming, historic and cosmopolitan centre, Toulouse is one of France’s most vibrant and metropolitan cities. Toulouse is a university city second only to Paris, a world-renowned aviation centre (Airbus is based there as well as the French space programme) and has the museums and art galleries you would expect from a major city.
The southern part of the region boasts a stirring and varied landscape. From the coastal flats to the rocky hills, the region has a rugged and rich backdrop. The fortress town of Carcassonne is perhaps the most notable, historic and beautiful. The nearby crumbling Cathar castles of the Aude hark back to the Languedoc’s era of independence, and the wars against the Cathars in the 12th century.
The south of France Languedoc has a diverse landscape, you have stylish and chic yacht ports, rolling valleys, rivers, abundant Medieval history, Mediterranean beaches, cities and the weather to match. Some of France’s best chateaux are found in the south of France and Languedoc region, and it’s a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday in France.
The Tarn, Aveyron, Lot, and Tarn et Garonne departments each have their own identity and feel. The Tarn has vineyards and the red brick city of Albi, the birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec. The Aveyron has a rugged landscape, skiing near the city of Rodez and the bastide town of Najac. The Tarn et Garonne has lush scenery, the gorges d’aveyron, the city of Montauban and the medieval town of St Antonin Noble Val with its popular Sunday market. The Lot has its river valleys, gorges and prehistoric caves.
The Laguepie / La Lauressie area
The cottage is in the tiny hamlet of La Lauressie, a 5-minute drive from Laguepie.
Situated on the border of three departments, Tarn et Garonne, Aveyron and Tarn, the lively market town of Laguepie, lies between the picturesque bastide towns of Cordes sur Ciel, Najac and St Antonin Noble Val. Laguepie sits on the confluence of two rivers, the Viaur and the Aveyron and a ruined chateau towers over the town and the river Viaur.
The village has all the basic amenities you need: boulangerie, tabac/presse, ironmongers, mini-markets, restaurants, bars and a twice-weekly vegetable market. Trains at Laguepie station can take you north to Figeac or south to Toulouse.
Local activities include canoeing and river swimming as well as walking, horse riding, cycling, tennis and golf. Relaxation and the enjoyment of the outdoor life are paramount here but there are plenty of places of interest to visit in the area including: the larger historic towns of Albi, Montauban, Toulouse, Villefranche de Rouergue and the smaller medieval towns of Cordes and Najac as well as the wine-growing region of Gaillac where you can enjoy wine tasting. Just up the road is the Lot valley with its breath taking gorges and its famous caves. There are also numerous chateaux to visit throughout the region.
For the truly adventurous the Mediterranean is approximately a 2½ hour drive as is Spain or the Pyrenees mountains.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa and it was lovely. The villa has been newly renovated and is was noce to stay in somewhere so new and clean. It feels very large, open plan without being cold. The gardens around and the pool area are very nice. I have never heard so much 'quiet' in my life. Truly relaxing. It is very close to beautiful villages with home grown goods, locally sourced foods, cheese, meats, vege, bread etc. We have never eated so well or so cheaply. The restuarant selcetion is very good, the best of French food for very reasonable prices. We will go again to stay here. Best of all is are the owners. We asked them over for some drinks and talked all night. NIce to meet such good people.
